Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques for analyzing statistical quality of bitstrings produced by a physical unclonable function (PUF). The PUF leverages resistance variations in the power grid wires of an integrated circuit. Temperature and voltage stability of the bitstrings are analyzed. The disclosure also describes converting a voltage drop into a digital code, wherein the conversion is resilient to simple and differential side-channel attacks.

Abstract: A system for measuring an absorption coefficient of a doped optical fiber may include: a laser source configured to transmit laser light at a selectable wavelength; a single-mode optical fiber including an end configured to splice to the doped optical fiber; two or more multimode fibers at a side of the doped optical fiber, spaced apart along the side of the doped optical fiber, configured to collect spontaneous emissions from the side of the doped optical fiber; and/or a photodiode or power meter connected to the two or more multimode fibers. A method for measuring an absorption coefficient of a doped optical fiber may include: collecting, from a side of the doped optical fiber, an emission spectrum using two or more multimode fibers; and/or calculating the absorption coefficient form using the emission spectrum and McCumber theory.

Abstract: A Hardware-Embedded Delay PUF (HELP) leverages entropy by monitoring path stability and measuring path delays from core logic macros. HELP incorporates techniques to deal with bias. A unique feature of HELP is that it may compare data measured from different test structures. HELP may be implemented in existing FPGA platforms. HELP may leverage both path stability and within-die variations as sources of entropy.

Abstract: The invention produces a higher quality image from a rendering system based on a relationship between the output of a rendering system and the parameters used to compute them. Specifically, noise is removed in rendering by estimating the functional dependency between sample features and the random inputs to the system. Mutual information is applied to a local neighborhood of samples in each part of the image. This dependency is then used to reduce the importance of certain scene features in a cross-bilateral filter, which preserves scene detail. The results produced by the invention are computed in a few minutes thereby making it reasonably robust for use in production environments.

Abstract: Nanowires that may be utilized in microscopy, for example atomic force microscopy (AFM), as part of an AFM probe, as well as for other uses, are disclosed. The nanowires may be formed from a Group III nitride such as an epitaxial layer that may be or include gallium nitride, indium nitride, aluminum nitride, and an alloy of these materials. During use of the AFM probe to measure a topography of a test sample surface, the nanowire can activated and caused to lase and emit a light, thereby illuminating the surface with the light. In an implementation, the light can be collected by the AFM probe itself, for example through an optical fiber to which the nanowire is attached.
