    Abstract: A method for allocating cloud resources in a cloud computing system based on tiered storage data movement includes: transmitting a request to a tiered storage system to provide a notification of a data movement initiated by a tiered storage system, where the data movement comprises moving data associated with the cloud computing system from a first storage tier to a second storage tier, and the notification comprises an indication of a condition for initiating the data movement; receiving the notification from the tiered storage system; identifying, using the received notification, a hosted computing environment having a volume associated with the data movement; determining whether to change an allocation of resources to the hosted computing environment; and changing the allocation of resources to the hosted computing environment response to determining to change the allocation of resources to the hosted computing environment.

    Abstract: Aspects provide human detector devices based on neuronal response, wherein the devices are configured to obtain electroencephalogram signals from an entity during a presentation of first sensory information to the entity, and compares the obtained electroencephalogram signals to each of a plurality of trained electroencephalogram signal profile portions that are labeled as the first sensory information that represent electroencephalogram signals most commonly generated by different persons as a function of presentation to the persons of sensory information corresponding to the first sensory information. Thus, the configured processor determines whether the entity is a human as a function of a strength of match of the obtained electroencephalogram signals to ones of the trained electroencephalogram signal profile portions labeled as first sensory information that have highest most-common weightings.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosure are directed to a lateral current injection electro-optical device. The device comprises an active region with a stack of III – V semiconductor gain materials stacked along a stacking direction z. The active region may be formed as a slab having several lateral surface portions, each extending parallel to the stacking direction z. The device further comprises two paired elements, which include: a pair of doped layers of III – V semiconductor materials (an n-doped layer and a p-doped layer); and a pair of lateral waveguide cores. The two paired elements may be laterally arranged, two- by-two, on opposite sides of the slab. The elements distinctly adjoin respective ones of the lateral surface portions of the slab, so as for these elements to be separated from each other by the slab. The disclosure may be further directed to related silicon photonics devices and fabrication methods.
