Abstract:
A diagnostic tool is adapted to include the capability of initiating one or more diagnostic tests, collecting the raw data from the diagnostic test(s) and transporting the raw diagnostic data to an OSS. The OSS interprets the raw diagnostic data and stores the results in a database. The stored results can be searched, sorted, manipulated, analyzed, and the like. The results of any of these operations can then be, for example, displayed to one or more entities such as customer support, network operators, network planners, or the like.
Abstract:
A peripheral functional unit is provided for a mobile communications terminal and can be connected thereto via an interface of the mobile communications terminal. The peripheral functional unit is designed in such a manner that the mobile communications terminal initiates a transmission of an emergency call message to an emergency call recipient when at least one component of the peripheral functional unit is detached from the mobile communications terminal.
Abstract:
A method and a system (10) for supporting rendezvous based instant group conferencing among mobile users allows a conference originator to initiate and setup instant group conferencing to a set of participants even when the participants may not be immediately available to commit to the conference call at the time of its initiation. All negotiations for obtaining commitments from the participants are performed by the system (10), thus relieving the originator of the time consuming task of negotiating with the participants. The system (10) automatically decides as to when to actually dial out to the participants to setup the conference call after obtaining commitment from all (or a quorum of) required participants.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for detecting faults on a telephone line, the method comprising: comparing measured characteristics of the line with a model, said model modeling expected characteristics of the telephone line; and in response to the comparison, generating a fault alert signal if the comparison between the measured characteristics and the modeled expected characteristics differ by more than a pre-determined threshold, wherein said characteristics comprise characteristics relating to the transmission of data on the line within a plurality of predetermined frequency bands.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for providing personalized information from a service provider (103) to a plurality of users using mobile terminals (106). Specifically, at least one content server (104) stores content in at least one content database (212). Additionally, at least one subscriber database (112) stores personalized user profiles. A plurality of base stations (102) respectively provide wireless communications coverage over a plurality of cells (108) between the at least one server of the service provider and the mobile terminals. Upon receiving a user request for content (310), the content server searches (345) for the requested content based upon the spatial, temporal, and user preference information stored in the subscriber and content databases. Once the requested content is retrieved, the content server provides (350) search results to the mobile terminal.
Abstract:
The present invention comprises a method for audio/video conferencing including an audio conferencing platform (26), the platform comprising network interface cards (38-40), processing boards (44-46), a CPU (48), a TDM bus (42) and a PCI bus (50). The method comprises using dynamic threshold value to determine whether there is speech on a line. In one aspect, the method comprises determining a dynamic threshold value based on one or more chracteristics of signals received on a port, associating that dynamic threshold value with the port; and comparing one or more characteristics of signals subsequently received on the port to the dynamic threshod value. Signals received over a plurality of ports are summed, but for ports whose signal characterisics have a specified relationship to the dynamic threshold value associated with that port, signals are not contained in the sum.
Abstract:
A clearinghouse unit (26) in communication with a service provider (18, 20, 22) and an operator (30, 32, 34) of a communication network (38, 40, 42). The clearinghouse unit (26) has a client database (36), a position database (28) and a match database (24). The position and other information of clients/users(12, 14) may be transacted between the operators (30, 32, 34), the users (12, 14), the service providers (18, 20, 22) and the clearinghouse unit (26) without revealing the true identity of the clients (12, 14).
Abstract:
A method for directory assistance in a geographic region in which local calls are serviced using multiple area codes (16, 18) begins in response to a directory assistance inquiry (10) by a caller. The inquiry is processed (12) by locating a destination number having an associated area code. An audible response is then communicated to the caller in the form of the destination number followed by the area code (20).
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for determining the availability of an agent in a multimedia-capable call center is disclosed. A routine implemented by the call-center determines whether an agent is busy or available (100). If the agent is determined to be busy on a video call (102, 104) or busy on a telephone call (106, 108), an Agent Busy result is returned (116). If the agent is determined not to be busy on either a video call (102, 104) or on a telephone call (106, 108), a determination is made as to whether the number of unanswered mails (e.g., electronic mail (e-mail) messages, voice mail messages, and video messages) for the agent exceeds a preset limit (110, 112). If the number of unanswered mails for the agent is determined to exceed the preset limit (110, 112), the Agent Busy result is returned (116). If the number of unanswered mails for the agent is determined to be equal to or less than the preset limit (110, 112), an Agent Available result is returned (114).
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for administering additional services (SS) in a communiation network. According to said method, initiating information is sent from a first service switching unit to a service control unit allocated to an additional service. Subsequently, the protocol supported by the first switching service is compared in the service control unit with the required protocol for the additional service. According to the outcome of the comparison, a second service switching unit is determined to support the required protocol for the additional service and rerouting to said service switching unit is initialized.
