Abstract: An infusion pump includes a pumping mechanism having at least one sensor and a pump motor and a pump control subsystem configured to control operation of the pumping mechanism, the pump control subsystem including a processor, a memory, and a startup module configured to drive the pump motor at a first rate, receive input from the at least one sensor, and drive the pump motor at a second rate based on the input received from the at least one sensor. Startup algorithms command an infusion pump to reach a targeted delivery rate or steady state in minimal time without requiring priming of the pump line or otherwise engaging in known methods of pump startup analysis.

Abstract: A call center answers calls from callers reporting incidents and dispatch responders in response thereto. A computing system at the call center receives a particular call from a caller regarding a particular incident, and determines whether the particular call is an original call that is reporting the particular incident for a first time to the call center, or is a repetitive call that is reporting the particular incident after the original call for the particular incident has already been received by the call center. If an original call, the computing system forwards the particular call to an agent at the call center for further attention. However, if a repetitive call, the computing system diverts the particular call from the agent at the call center. Accordingly, the resources of the call center may be concentrated on original calls and away from repetitive calls.

Abstract: A medical infusion pump for delivering a medicament to a patient. The pump includes a user interface to display a choice of nominal medicament delivery rates. The user interface enables a practitioner to select one of the displayed nominal medicament delivery rates. It further enables the practitioner to enter a numerical multiplier factor, thereby creating a nominal delivery rate. It further enables the practitioner to create a custom alphanumeric string that the practitioner associates with a patient characteristic, enter a numeric value relating to the patient characteristic, and determine an actual delivery rate by modifying the selected nominal medicament delivery rate based on the numeric value relating to the patient characteristic. The pump mechanism is then controlled to deliver medicament from a reservoir to a patient at the actual delivery rate.

Abstract: A stopcock and sampling port device. The stopcock and sampling port device configured to reduce the occurrence of stagnation fluid flowing therethrough, the stopcock and sampling port device including a housing, an elastomeric element, a cap, a handle, and a divided septum, the housing defining an internal fluid passageway having a first port, a second port, and a third port, the divided septum operably coupled to the housing within the third port and configured to encourage turbulence of fluid passing through the third port, thereby reducing the occurrence of stagnation of fluid flowing therethrough.

Abstract: An infusion line clamp system includes a clamp configured to attach to an infusion line and reversibly occlude the infusion line. The clamp is biased to occlude the infusion line except when acted upon by an externally applied opening force. The system also includes an infusion pump having a control system, a clamp receptacle configured to releasably secure the clamp to the infusion pump, and a clamp actuation mechanism that is configured to selectively actuate the clamp under command of the control system, by selective application of opening force to the clamp when the clamp is secured to the pump.

Abstract: A system for occlusion detection could include a syringe pump for a syringe containing a medication, wherein the syringe includes a plunger and the syringe pump includes a plunger driver. A bendable element could be integrally formed with the plunger driver, and a force sensor could also be integrally formed with the plunger driver. Upon occurrence of an occlusion, the plunger would exert a force backwardly against the bendable element, thereby deflecting the bendable element into contact with the force sensor to thereby generate a signal indicating the occurrence of the occlusion.

Abstract: The present invention safety device is a one-piece needle assembly that has a base and a housing pivotally connected to the base. The base has a distal portion to which a needle is fitted. At the base there is formed longitudinally along its distal portion a catch mechanism that may be in the form of an anchor projection. At the back wall of the housing there is extended another catch mechanism that may be configured in the form of two clasping fingers. Also providing in the housing is an integral hook. As the housing and the base are pivoted relative to each other, and as the needle makes contact with the hook, the respective catch mechanisms at the base and the housing also make contact with each other, resulting in the coupling of the catch mechanisms and the coupling of the needle to the hook. As a result, the catch mechanisms are interlocked and the needle is fixedly retained by the hook within the housing. The catch mechanisms may also be configured as a hook and a latch in the form of a rib with an opening whereto the hook is fixedly coupled. The catch mechanisms may further be configured as respective interlockable pairs of loops and bosses. The gauge of the needle may be determined by the color of both the base and the housing, which are molded as a unitary single unit.
