Abstract:
A process for cleaning short segments and bundles of carpet yarn removed from used carpets and converting the cleaned carpet fiber filaments into recycled carpet fiber is disclosed. The process reduces mechanical complexity, saves water, and minimizes the volume of waste when compared to known process. The process comprises turbulent mixing of carpet fiber segments and bundles in an aqueous medium to remove entrained particulates and soluble materials. A thermoplastic pellet or granule, carpet fiber, and carpet made from carpet filaments cleaned with the disclosed process is also provided.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for recovering power from the gaseous stream produced by an oxidation reaction. Specifically, the invention is based on heating the gaseous stream from the oxidation reaction to a temperature of at least 800 DEG C and recovering energy through a gas turbine. The compressor stage of the gas turbine compresses the oxidant feed to the reactor thereby at least partially offsetting the cost of providing the high temperature and pressure reaction conditions in the reactor. The invention also provides improved control of the power recovery system by optimising the efficiency of the gas turbine by feeding gas to the gaseous stream to modulate the flow of gas to the turbine relative to the compressor discharge flow in order to compensate for the consumption of oxidant in the reactor.
Abstract:
A method of winding bulked continuous filament yarn is disclosed, which enables superior yarn package formation, including higher density packages with excellent shape and yarn takeoff characteristics. The method uses unique helix angles and winding profiles in a non-adjacent and adjacent yarn pattern, achieved by a unique winding control strategy that constantly monitors spindle speed, desired wind ratio, traverse cam speed, and surface speed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of preparing dinitriles, involving hydrocyanation of unsaturated nitrile compounds in the presence of a catalyst based on metallic elements in zero oxidation state and organophosphorous ligands. More specifically, the invention relates to a method of recovering a catalyst for the hydrocyanation of unsaturated nitriles into dinitriles from the hydrocyanation medium. The inventive method consists in: controlling the concentration of unsaturated nitriles in the reaction medium originating from the hydrocyanation reaction, in order to obtain a weight concentration of unsaturated nitriles of less than 20 % in said medium; and supplying the aforementioned medium in a decantation step in two phases, namely an upper and lower phase. The lower phase comprises the majority of the catalytic system, while the upper phase essentially comprises the nitriles.
Abstract:
A synthetic polymer composition comprising a blend of a synthetic thermoplastic polymer and a polymer containing a polyether chain as a constituent, wherein the article manufactured from the blend contains an active compound is disclosed. Yarns may be formed from the synthetic polymer blend and then knitted or woven into articles, such as net or fabric. The articles may be treated with active compounds such as a perfume, fabric softener, sunscreen agent, antibacterial agent, pesticide, insecticide and such other compounds that provide functionality on the article. The treated articles of the invention retain more than an effective amount of active compounds even after numerous washings.
Abstract:
The invention provides a polyester bicomponent staple fiber comprising poly(trimethylene terephthalate) and at least one polymer selected from the group consisting of poly(ethylene terephthalate), poly(trimethylene terephthalate), and poly(tetramethylene terephthalate) or a combination of such members, said bicomponent staple fiber having: a) a scalloped oval cross-section shape having an aspect ratio a:b of about 2:1 to about 5:1 wherein 'a' is a fiber cross-section major axis length and 'b' is a fiber cross- section minor axis length; b) a polymer interface substantially perpendicular to the major axis; c) a cross-section configuration selected from the group consisting of side-by- side and eccentric sheath-core; d) a plurality of longitudinal grooves; and e) a groove ratio of about 1.05:1 to about 1.9:1. Additionally, the invention provides a spun yarn comprising cotton and the polyester bicomponent staple fiber of the invention, as well as fabrics and garments comprising the spun yarn of the invention.
