Abstract:
An electrophysiological ablation catheter comprises a flexible shaft having a circumferential tissue ablation structure and a linear tissue ablation structure at its distal end. By positioning the circumferential tissue ablation structure in a pulmonary vein ostium and the linear tissue ablation structure extending radially from the pulmonary vein ostium toward a second pulmonary vein ostium, lesions around and between the ostium may be formed with a single catheter placement. Repositioning the catheter allows the remaining pulmonary vein ostia and tissue therebetween to be ablated in order to treat atrial fibrillation.
Abstract:
The present invention described a method for the realization of a structure for couches, beds, mattresses, chairs and similar. In particular the operations that characterize the following method initially comprise the prearrangement of a solid body with a predetermined initial shape and a further process at the machines tools (4). In such manner it is obtained directly by a sole starting piece the finished product. Of particular interest for the present application result to be the composite material of polymeric type with shape memory.

Disclosed herein is an electrosurgical probe which is applicable to a patient's joints at knees, shoulders, hands and a spine and other parts requiring surgical operations, capable of being conveniently disposed at any diseased parts to be cured according to an operator's intention, and also capable of maximizing an effect of the operation. The electrosurgical probe includes a connection unit connected with a controller and a high-frequency generator, a shaft fixed to the connection unit, a head unit pivotably connected to the shaft, a high-frequency generation unit disposed at the head unit to generate high-frequency waves, and a head angle varying unit varying an angle of the head unit with respect to the shaft.
Abstract:
Devices suitable for insertion into a hollow anatomical structure within a patient for the purpose of ablating tissue within or surrounding the hollow structure so as to induce occlusion of the hollow structure are provided. The devices are in the form of guidewires with functional tips, that comprise at least one heating module, at their distal ends. The devices of the invention are suitable for occluding hollow anatomical structures selected from vasculature or from non-vascular ducts and tubes, via percutaneous, laparoscopic or endoscopic routes of access. Methods of using the devices in the treatment of patients are also described.
Abstract:
Microfluidic valves constructed from elastomcric materials as the valve body components and employing shape memory alloy in wire form as the valve actuator. Various configurations of individual valves having both normally open and normally closed states are described. Apparatus using such valves and providing logic functionality with fluidic logic outputs are discussed. Apparatus that can be used for materials processing at the nano- or micro- scale are presented. Various forms of logical control of valve arrays are explained.
Abstract:
A lighting device comprises at least one light source (2) and a body (3) that is respectively movable between a first position at which it conceals the light source (2) that is generally turned off to the sight of an observer, and a second position at which it makes visible the light source (2) that is turned on. The device further comprises actuating means (4) associated with said movable body (3) and including at least one shape memory actuator (5) that is selectively deformable between a first geometric condition corresponding to the first position of the movable body (3) in which the light radiation is absent, and a second geometric condition corresponding to the second position of the movable body (3) in which the light radiation is present.
Abstract:
A woven fabric for use in an implantable medical device, such as a stented graft member, comprises shape memory element strands (100) woven with textile strands (110, 115). At least one of the shape memory element strands (100) has at least one float of at least five textile strands between binding points. The shape memory element strands may be heated and cooled before the weaving process, and then heated again after the weaving process.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A catheter for mapping and/or ablating a region of the heart, comprises a catheter body with an intermediate section that is connected to a tip assembly by a highly flexible preshaped section. The highly flexible section presets the tip assembly at an off axis and/or off plane angles from the intermediate section, to provide the following: a) The intermediate section when deflected approximates the generally convex region of the cavo tricuspid isthmus and the preset angle of the flexible section is off axis in the same plane and same direction as deflection of the intermediate section to enable the tip assembly to contact the cavo tricuspid isthmus for ablation and/or mapping. b) The intermediate section when deflected approximates the generally concave region of the VA/RV/LA/LV and the preset angle in the same plane and opposite direction of deflection enables the tip assembly to contact the walls of the cavity for ablation and/or mapping. c) The intermediate section when deflected approximates the generally convex region of the His area and the preset off plane angle of the flexible section enable the tip assembly to contact the Bundle of His region. A high bending modulus of the flexible section enables the flexible section to absorb displacement force applied to the tip assembly, such as when the tip assembly encounters uneven tissue surface, without displacing the intermediate section. The flexible section prevents excessive force from being applied to the tip assembly, reducing the risk of any of the following: a) mechanical perforation, b) steam pop, c) burying the tip assembly in the myocardium resulting in high temperatures, low energy delivery, thrombus formation and char formation.
