Abstract: Ultrahigh tenacity, ultrahigh modulus fibers are provided. The fibers are prepared by dissolving a mixture of poly(phenyleneterephthalamide) polymer with an inherent viscosity of at least 5 and a regularly ordered aromatic-aliphatic copolymer with an inherent viscosity of at least 2 in concentrated sulfuric acid to form a spinning solution, which solution is subsequently subject to extrusion by a known per se dry-jet spinning process.

Abstract: Organotrialkoxysilane stabilizers for inorganic silicate corrosion inhibitor additives in antifreezer/coolant formulations are described. The stabilizers have the following structure: wherein R is an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms, R1 is either and R2 and R3 may be same or different and selected from -Ph, -CN, (wherein R is an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms). These stabilizers help prevent the gelation of the corrosion inhibiting silicate additives in antifreezer/coolant formulations so that the silicates could be more persistent in their corrosion inhibiting properties.

Abstract: High oriented poly(p-phenylenetetraphthalamide) short fibers having an inherent viscosity of at least 5.0 and a dimension of 2-12 mu m in diameter and 1000-5000 mu m in length are provided. Those fibers further have a physical form of irregular cross-sections and needle point-like ends similar to those of natural wood pulp fibers, a crystalline properties such as a crystallinity of more than 50%, an orientation angle of less than 25 DEG and an apparent crystallite size of more than 50 ANGSTROM as determined from an X-ray diffractogram scan, and a cross-section with four extinction positions through 360 DEG rotation when observed under a polarizing microscope. These fibers are prepared, without spinning steps, by subjecting the molecular chains of poly(p-phenyleneterephthalamide) to mechanical parallelization during the growth of the chains in a polymerization system therefor cotaining a pyridine/amide-based solvent.

Abstract: An antifreeze composition for use in aluminum internal combustion engines is disclosed. It is comprised of from 0.05 percent to 0.5 percent silicate, from 0.07 percent to 0.35 percent nitrate, from 0.2 percent to 2.0 percent phosphate, from 0.5 percent to 4.0 percent benzoate, from 0.1 percent to 1.0 percent molybdate, from 0.02 percent to 0.3 percent vanadate, from 0.05 percent to 0.3 percent triazole, and from 100 ppm to 5000 ppm organosilane stabilizer for the silicate. Organic amines and borates are excluded in the compositions and the pH of the compositions is from about 7 to about 9.

Abstract: According to embodiments of the present disclosure, a solid oxide fuel cell includes a cathode, an anode, and a solid oxide electrolyte between the anode and the cathode. The solid oxide electrolyte includes a solid oxide, and the anode includes a porous scaffold. The porous scaffold includes a solid oxide having metal-based catalysts disposed on one or more surfaces of the porous scaffold. In embodiments, at least one ammonia decomposition layer is disposed proximate the surface of the porous scaffold and is configured to convert ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen for subsequent feed of hydrogen to the anode. The ammonia decomposition layer also includes a metal decomposition catalyst.

Abstract: According to embodiments of the present disclosure, a method of producing hydrogen in a fuel cell includes passing ammonia under pressure to an anode of the fuel cell, where the ammonia is decomposed into nitrogen gas and protons. The fuel cell comprises a cathode, the anode, and a proton-conducting electrolyte between the anode and the cathode. The anode includes an ammonia decomposition catalyst. The method further includes passing the purging the nitrogen from the anode, passing the protons through the proton-conducting electrolyte to the cathode, and passing the electrons from the anode to the cathode, wherein the protons and the electrons react to produce substantially pure hydrogen gas under pressure.
