Abstract:
In order to free a seized valve, an inspection port (52) is formed in a wall of the valve body and the areas where the valve is seized are determined. One or more injection ports (54) are formed in the valve body adjacent to the seized portions of the valve, pressurised fluid (preferably an insoluble lubricant having a very high cone penetration) is injected through the or each injection port and the injection ports are then closed.
Abstract:
A highly effective solid cold working lubricant may be deposited on a metal surface from an aqueous solution/dispersion that contains ethoxylated alcohols with at least 18 carbon atoms per alcohol and lithium, calcium, and/or sodium salts of fatty acids. Optional preferred ingredients include inorganic boron containing compounds, ethoxylated castor oil, ionomers, and a corrosion inhibitor that includes azoles. No prior conversion coating, such as is generally used under conventional organic soap lubricants, is needed with this type of solid film.
Abstract:
An aqueous cutting fluid comprising a cationic water-soluble resin having an amino value of 20 to 200 mg KOH/g and at least one viscosity modifier selected from among inorganic and organic bentonites and aqueous silica sols, wherein the content of nonvolatiles in the viscosity modifier is 0.1 to 30 wt.% based on the nonvolatiles in the resin; an aqueous cutting agent prepared by incorporating abrasive grains into the fluid in an amount of 100 to 1000 wt.% based on the nonvolatiles of the fluid, which is excellent in the dispersion stability of abrasive grains and viscosity stability and effective particularly for wire saws; and a process for cutting hard brittle materials by the use of a cutting tool and the cutting agent, which permits high-accuracy processing of the hard brittle materials and excellent cleaning thereof.
Abstract:
An improved polybutene-free lubricant composition for marine diesel engines, comprising a major amount of oil of lubricating viscosity and, provided by admixing therewith, minor amounts of a) at least one of a borated dispersant or oil-soluble or oil-dispersible boron compound; and b) one or more overbased metal compounds, the or each compound having a TBN of at least 300, with the proviso that if an overbased metal salicylate is present then the TBN of said salicylate is at least 200; wherein the TBN of the composition is at least 10 and the viscosity index of the composition is at least 90.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to improved gel/grease compositions as well as grease compositions capable of imparting improved corrosion resistance. The grease includes a silica/silicate mixture that can impart a relatively high pH and corrosion resistant properties to the grease.
Abstract:
A recirculating flow of a non-micellar milky white water-in-oil emulsion is provided to a metal workpiece (4) being subjected to a working operation in a work station (1), the fluid (20) returning from the work station (1) being collected in a tank (8) and its water content replenished by simple addition (21) of water thereto. The direction of circulation of fluid (20) is indicated by arrows (30). During recirculation, the fluid preferably passes through filters (17, 13) to a clean storage tank (14).
Abstract:
A tyre gel balancing composition having a storage modulus of between 3000 and 15000 Pa and the specific gravity less than 1000 kg/m in the temperature range between -20 and +90 DEG C, preferably its storage modulus is about 9000 Pa, is capable of balancing tyres by being able to flow under the vibrations caused by imbalance in a wheel assembly. The composition preferably comprises a mixture of: 1) paraffinic oils, polybutene oils, polyolesters or polyol ethers; 2) hydrophobic or hydrophilic fumed silica; 3) polyalkyl-methacrylates, styrene-ethylene-propylene block copolymers or polyhydroxycarboxylic acid derivatives; and optionally corrosion inhibitors and antioxidants.
Abstract:
A nitrite-free, aqueous wet temper pass agent that prevents staining of the rolls and corrosion of temper rolled sheet steel or galvanized sheet steel, contains at least one benzoylalanine of general formula (I) or its salts, at least one monocarboxylic and/or dicarboxylic acid, at least one alkanolamine, possibly an aromatic sulfonic acid and a water hardness complexant, the remaining being water. A process is also disclosed for temper rolling hoop-steel and galvanized hoop-steel with the disclosed wet temper pass agent.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprises at least 0.1 % by weight of substantially spherical particles of a hard, abrasion-resistant and fracture-resistant, thermally stable and chemically inert material, and up to 99.9 % by weight of a supporting vehicle. The particles are preferably of silica-alumina ceramic material, and preferably have an average diameter of less than 250 mu m. Lubricants are suitable for most applications, but are especially useful for conditions of high temperature and pressure.
