A power switching control device (1) and methods for using the same to control a magnetic actuator (15) within a power switching device (10) are disclosed. The power switching control device uses a series of modulated current pulses to control a magnetic actuator within a power switching device. The power switching control device inputs a power signal and applies a series of modulated current pulses through the coil of the magnetic actuator in a first direction such that the actuator moves from a first position to a second position. Certain operating characteristics of a power switching device can be ascertained by analyzing the impedance of the magnetic actuator coil within the power swithcing device. The power switching device control device also has an improved energy management system therein. In this manner, the controller includes a voltage regulator (22) that has the ability to switch between operating modes.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for fault detection and protection in electric power systems that evaluates electromagnetic transients caused by faults. A fault can be detected using sampled data from a first monitored point in the power system. Detection of fault transients and associated characteristics, including transient direction, can also be extracted through evaluation of sample data from other monitored points in the power system. A monitoring device can evaluate whether to trip a switching device in response to the detection of the fault and based on confirmation of an indication of detection of fault transients at the other monitored points of the power system. The determination of whether to trip or activate the switching device can also be based on other factors, including the timing of receipt of an indication of the detection of the fault transients and/or an evaluation of the characteristics of the detected transients.

A system and method for configuring devices on a device network in communication with a router on a control network. An unconfigured device installed on the network receives a poll at a predetermined address from a router. The router receives a response to the poll from the unconfigured device, and requests identification of devices having a range of device object IDs and stores the MAC addresses of responding devices and the device object IDs. The unconfigured device is configured to have the proposed MAC address and device object ID.

A voltage measuring device includes an input configured to be coupled to a secondary of an inductive coupling of a DC to DC voltage converter. A switch- coupled to the input forms a discharge path parallel to a sampling capacitor dependent on the voltage at the input equaling or exceeding a first voltage threshold and independent of an output voltage at the output of the device. The sampling capacitor is coupled to the output. A rectifier in series with the sampling capacitor is biased to conduct upon the input voltage, minus the output voltage, equaling or exceeding a second voltage.

An energy storage system for connection to a traction power supply that provides power to an electric vehicle. The energy storage system includes a power controller that controls a DC-DC converter to transfer electrical energy from the traction power supply to electrical energy storage when the train is braking. The power controller also controls the converter to transfer electrical energy from the electrical energy storage to the traction power supply when the train is accelerating. The controller slows the rate of energy transfer when upper and lower voltage boundary limits of the electrical energy storage are approached, respectively.

A method and system to optimize the parameters of a robot used in an assembly process. The assembly process is categorized based on its nature which may be cylindrical, radial and multi-stage insertion. The search pattern and search parameters are specified. The parameters are optimized and the optimized parameter set are verified and when a predetermined criteria such as assembly cycle time set and/or success rate is met the optimization process stops. When the optimization stops the verified parameters are used to cause the robot to perform the categorized assembly process. If the parameters do not meet the predetermined criteria, another round of optimization using the same or other parameters can be performed.

The present invention is directed to a system and method of monitoring assets of an enterprise using a stand-alone software system and a process automation software system. The stand-alone software system is operable to generate a web page about a condition of the asset and to transmit data items for the condition in a single data string. The data items include a status of the condition and a URL of the web page. The process automation software system includes a human system interface (HSI) and a generic asset monitor having a changeable condition table. The generic asset monitor may be modified to create a custom asset monitor specific to the asset. The custom asset monitor is operable to monitor the status of the condition and the HSI is operable to display the data items and the web page from the stand-alone software system.
