Abstract:
A catalyst composition comprises the reaction product of an alkoxide or condensed alkoxide of a metal M, selected from titanium, zirconium, hafnium, aluminium, or a lanthanide, an alcohol containing at least two hydroxyl groups, a 2-hydroxy carboxylic acid and a base, wherein the molar ratio of base to 2-hydroxy carboxylic acid is in the range 0.01 - 0.79:1. The composition is useful as a catalyst for esterification reactions, especially for the production of polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate, polytrimethylene terephthalate and polybutylene terephthalate.
Abstract:
Fischer-Tropsch hydrocarbon synthesis using a cobalt catalyst is used to produce waxy fuel and lubricant oil hydrocarbons from synthesis gas derived from natural gas. The waxy hydrocarbons are hydrodewaxed, with reduced conversion to lower boiling hydrocarbons, by contacting the waxy hydrocarbons, in the presence of hydrogen, with an unsulfided 10-ring, 1-dimensional zeolite catalyst that has been reduced and then treated by contacting it with the synthesized hydrocarbons containing one or more oxygenates, including indigenous oxygenate. Tail gas from the hydrodewaxing reactor can be used for the hydrocarbon synthesis.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for recovering rhodium catalyst values from ''tars'' formed during the preparation of acetic anhydride by the rhodium catalyzed carbonylation of a mixture of methyl iodide and methyl acetate and/or dimethyl ether. The disclosed process provides a means for the recovery of rhodium values which normally are not extracted from the tars by treating a methyl iodide solution of such tars with certain oxidants.
Abstract:
A method for heterocycle catalyzed electrochemical reduction of a carbonyl compound is disclosed. The method generally includes steps (A) to (C). Step (A) may introduce the carbonyl compound into a solution of an electrolyte and a heterocycle catalyst in a divided electrochemical cell. The divided electrochemical cell may include an anode in a first cell compartment and a cathode in a second cell compartment. The cathode generally reduces the carbonyl compound to at least one aldehyde compound. Step (B) may vary which of the aldehyde compounds is produced by adjusting one or more of (i) a cathode material, (ii) the electrolyte, (iii) the heterocycle catalyst, (iv) a pH level and (v) an electrical potential. Step (C) may separate the aldehyde compounds from the solution.
Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus for deodorization and sterilization including: a cylinder through which air including odor-causing molecules and bacteria passes, a cation generation unit generating cations within the cylinder to remove the odor-causing molecules and bacteria, and a molecular sieve absorbing the odor-causing molecules, wherein the molecular sieve carries a catalyst on a support. Also, a method for preparing a molecular sieve absorbing odor-causing molecules is provided. Odors and bacteria can be reliably removed and a thermal treatment is not required for regenerating a catalyst.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to butadiene rubber polymers having low molecular weights and narrower molecular weight distributions than those known in the art. The present invention also relates to a metal-containing catalyst system, a solution polymerization process for the manufacture of said butadiene rubber, a one-pot process for the synthesis of the hydrogenated diene polymers, and a process for the hydrogenation of diene polymers.
