An ionizing particulate scrubber is provided for the removal of particulate from a gaseous exhaust stream, said scrubber comprising two sections: a charging section and a collection section. The charging or ionizing section comprises one or more cylindrical tubular ground chambers each with a rigid threaded rod electrode extending through the center thereof. A transformer/rectifier (T/R) is provided to supply high voltage DC power to the electrode such that the cylindrical tubular ground chambers act as the ground to enable a corona to form on the threaded rod electrode. As the gas stream passes through the current flowing from the electrode to the cylindrical tubular ground chambers walls, the particulate contained within the stream is electrostatically charged. The collection system comprises either a fixed or fluid bed packed section which is constantly irrigated from above. Ground rods in the packing and liquid sump allow the entire section to act as a grounded collector for the charged particulate. The gas stream and charged particulate are immediately sent from the charge section to the collection section of the system, and clean gas is then passed through an entrainment separator section to remove liquid droplets.

The present invention is related to electro-kinetic air conditioner systems having at least one emitter electrode and at least one collector electrode. The emitter electrode can have a plurality of pins axially arranged about a center axis and can include a cleaning mechanism which removes debris and particulates from the pins when the emitter electrode and/or cleaning mechanism is moved. Preferably, a driver electrode is located within the interior of the collector electrode. A high voltage source provides a voltage potential to at least one of the emitter electrode and the collector electrode to thereby provide a potential difference therebetween.

A method for collecting fine particles from flue gases onto selected collector surfaces includes leading the flue gases from a combustion chamber to a selected chamber that is part of a flow channel of the flue gasses. The selected channel is delimited by walls presenting the selected collector surfaces. Gas ions are formed with aid of a corona discharge of an ion source inside the selected chamber. The ion source includes a separate body relative to the selected chamber that is electrically passive and contains a corona electrode maintained at a high-voltage relative to the collector surfaces. The selected collector surfaces form a counter potential to the high voltage of the corona electrode. The gas ions are led to the selected chamber and mixed with the flue gases to charge the fine particles in the flue gas which are collected on the selected collector surfaces.

A vehicle (1) is provided comprising a cabin (9), a conduit (2) arranged to conduct a flow of air from outside the vehicle to the cabin, and a filter unit (8) arranged to filter at least a portion of the flow of air before it enters the cabin. Further, an ionizing unit (10) is arranged in the conduit upstream of the filter unit as seen in the direction of the flow of air so as to charge particles present in the flow of air and transmit at least a major part of the charged particles towards the filter unit. The at least one collector electrode (11) has a tube-like shape arranged to conduct at least a portion of the flow of air, and the at least one emitter electrode (12) is arranged at a central axis of the tube-like shaped collector electrode, whereby a more uniform ionization field is provided.
