Abstract:
A process for coating steel with a non-dripping pickle oil is disclosed. The coating process uses a heated hydrocarbon oil containing a long-chain linear alcohol as the coating medium. The alcohol converts the hydrocarbon oil into a meso-solid at ambient temperatures. The coating provides corrosion protection for the steel during storage and shipping. The process is also applicable for converting slushing oils and oils for drawing and stamping of metal into meso-solid coatings.
Abstract:
Grease compositions containing nitrites and amines form N-nitrosamines, which are suppressed by the addition to such compositions of a combination of metal ascorbate or metal isoascorbate with alpha tocopherol.
Abstract:
Since primers can be applied to metal substrates prior to subsequent operation, including metal deformation, they are often applied in coil coating operation. The potential for the removal of primer coating during metal deformation is a drawback to early coating application. There is now provided a lubricant composition particularly adapted to meet this problem. The composition comprises metallic stearate, emulsifier, titanium dioxide and Xanthomonas hydrophilic colloid, all in aqueous medium.
Abstract:
A tablet which gradually dissolves in a water-soluble cutting liquid over a long period of time for preventing deterioration thereof comprises 15 to 25% by weight of mixed primary amides of a fatty acid and a naphthenic acid, 5 to 15% by weight of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid tetra sodium salt, 5 to 15% by weight of a lower alkyl borate, 30 to 50% by weight of at least one fatty acid derivative selected from the group consisting of esters and alkanolamine salts, and 10 to 25% by weight of an alkali nitrite.
Abstract:
An improved lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount by weight of oil of lubricating viscosity; a minor amount by weight of solid particles effective to improve the lubricating properties of the composition; and a minor amount by weight of at least one of certain specific polymers has been found to provide improved inhibition of sludge and varnish formation in use. The polymers useful in the present composition comprise(1) an olefin polymer, for example, an ethylene, propylene and 1,4-hexadiene terepolymer, with an dialkylaminoalkyl methacrylate grafted thereon;(2) an interpolymer prepared from a long chain n alkyl-methacrylate and a dialkylaminoalkylmethacrylate or a N (alkanone) acrylamide; or(3) mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
Phosphate salts are prepared by reacting a triaryl phosphate and an aliphatic amine in the presence of a catalytic amount of boric acid. Certain of the phosphate salts are useful as additives for lubricating oils.
Abstract:
Novel benzimidazo [2,1-a]benz[de] isoquinoline-7-one mono-urea compounds having the structure formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl radical of 16-22 carbon atoms, are excellent thickening agents for grease compositions employed in high temperature applications.
Abstract:
Described are lubricating greases corrosion inhibited by a synergistic amount of a mixture of sodium nitrite and N-acyl sarcosines. The greases contain from 75 to 96 parts by weight, preferably 80 to 95 parts by weight of a mineral oil having a SUS viscosity of 50 to 2500 at 100.degree. F thickened to grease consistency with about 3 to 25, preferably 5 to 20, parts by weight of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal soap or a mixture thereof.
Abstract:
An aqueous composition for the working of metals comprising in solution in water at least one salt of an orthophosphoric ester of the formula: ##EQU1## in which R is a hydrocarbon group containing between 10 and 20 carbon atoms and at least two atoms of chlorine, R' is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group, identical or not to R, whose carbon chain contains between 10 and 20 carbon atoms and at least two atoms of chlorine.
Abstract:
A novel composition constituting a mixture of 1,3,5-tri (variegated alkanols) hexahydro-s-triazines and 1,3,5-trialkanol hexahydro-s-triazines, where the alkanol moieties have from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The composition is made by reacting a mixture of monoalkanolamines, preferably in substantially equal gram-molecular proportions, with paraformaldehyde and stripping off the water formed by the reaction. The composition is used by adding a bactericidally or fungicidally effective amount thereof to a carrier which is to be protected against the activity of bacteria or fungi or which is to be applied to a substrate to be so protected. The carrier may be a solid medium, such as solid soap or a liquid medium such as liquid soap, water or an organic liquid, e.g. a liquid alcohol or a liquid hydrocarbon. Typical carriers are cutting oil, hydraulic fluid, varnish, shellac, water- and oil-based paints, methanol, ethanol and propanol, liquid adhesives, cleaners and disinfectants.
