    Abstract: The invention is directed to a system for remote groundwater monitoring. The system includes one or more sensor modules configured for distribution in one or more groundwater monitoring wells. Each sensor module is adapted to acquire multi-parameter sensor data from each groundwater monitoring well. The multi-parameter sensor data includes electrochemical property data and electrical property data of groundwater in each groundwater monitoring well. One or more hubs are coupled to the one or more sensor modules for retrieving the multi-parameter sensor data and wirelessly communicating with an online server to upload the multi-parameter sensor data to the online server.

    Abstract: Apparatus for measuring deformation of an elongate body defining an axis, the apparatus including: an optical fibre arranged relative to the body, the optical fibre including a first strain sensitive optical fibre portion coupled to the body and at least partially aligned at a first angle relative to the axis, and a second strain sensitive optical fibre portion coupled to the body and at least partially aligned at a second angle relative to the axis, the second angle being opposite to the first angle; a radiation source connected to an end of the optical fibre, the radiation source being for supplying electromagnetic radiation to the optical fibre; a sensor connected to an end of the optical fibre, the sensor being for sensing electromagnetic radiation received from the first and second optical fibre portions; and a processing device for determining the deformation of the body using the sensed electromagnetic radiation, the deformation including any axial or torsional deformation.

    Abstract: A method of designing a cutting drum for earth moving equipment is disclosed. The cutting drum has two or more ring segments, each ring segment comprising a plurality of cutting tools, and the rotational position of at least one ring segment is adjustable relative to one or more other ring segment and fixable in the new rotational position. The method involves inputting a plurality of design parameters of a cutting drum into a computer program, performing a computer simulated analysis of the cutting drum using the computer program to determine at least one operational value associated with at least one design objective, using the computer simulated analysis to determine the relative locations of the ring segments that correspond to the at least one design objective, and rotating the or each adjustable ring segment relative to at least one other ring segment so that the relative locations of the ring segments correspond to the at least one design objective. A cutting drum for use with the method is also disclosed.

    Abstract: Described embodiments relate to a hand-held portable sedimentation measurement device, comprising: a closeable fluid container having a container wall and defining a chamber to receive fluid for sedimentation measurement and defining a central longitudinal axis; multiple light sources disposed along the container and generally parallel to the longitudinal axis to direct light through the wall into the chamber; multiple light sensors disposed along the container arranged to detect light passing through the chamber from at least one of the light sources; a controller configured to control emission of light from the sources and to receive detection signals from the light sensors, wherein sedimentation measurements are derived from the light emitted from the light sources and the detection signals; a communication interface coupled to the controller and arranged to transmit sedimentation data to an external computing device; and a housing connected to the container and housing the controller and interface.
