Abstract:
Method and composition for applying a coating to a metallic surface, the surface being immersed in an acidic aqueous coating composition comprising dispersed solid particles of an organic polymeric resinous coating-forming material and an oxidizing agent, wherein the weight or thickness of the coating formed on the surface is a function of the time the surface is immersed in the composition.

This invention relates to stable, fluid magnesium-containing dispersions and the preparations thereof by the high temperature decomposition of MgCO.sub.3 to MgO in a dispersant-containing fluid.
Abstract:
A composition for lubricating synthetic fibers, which comprises(i) a base oil containing compounds of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R and R" each are hydrogen or acyl having 1 to 22 carbon atoms, R' is alkylene having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and x and y each is an integer of at least 1, with the proviso that the sum of x and y does not exceed 50,And at least one ester selected from the group consisting of esters of aliphatic monohydric alcohols with monobasic fatty acids, dibasic fatty acids or mixture thereof and esters of aliphatic polyhydric alcohols with monobasic fatty acids, said ester having a kinematic viscosity not higher than 70 centistokes measured at 30.degree. C., and(ii) a polymer of 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline.
Abstract:
The present invention is a water soluble, pasty lubricant containing a base material comprising a neutral fat and/or a vegetable oil, an alkali metal soap, water and an alkali metal salt of a boric acid. The lubricant has particular advantage for use in non-chip metal forming.
Abstract:
A continuous casting mold for casting strands, such as billets and blooms having a cross-sectional shape possessing corners, preferably a four-cornered cross-section, comprising an upper mold part and a lower mold part. Walls movable independently of one another of the lower mold part are movable about pivot shafts or equivalent structure arranged transversely with respect to the direction of travel of the cast strand and operatively connected with the upper mold part. The independently movable walls of the lower mold part can be shifted under the action of resilient elements, such as springs, towards the hollow cavity or mold compartment. The pivot shaft connected with each wall is arranged to be movable in a transverse direction with respect to the side of the wall associated with the hollow cavity or compartment of the mold.
Abstract:
A dry-film, water-base lubricant is provided for coating metallic workpieces for use in cold forming operations comprising MoS.sub.2 powder, hydroxyethyl cellulose, and sodium and/or potassium silicate. A process for applying this lubricant and a lubricated workpiece are also provided.
Abstract:
Improved low smoking composition and method for cold forming metal parts is disclosed. The composition contains water, block copolymer of ethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide and which copolymer has a molecular weight of from about 1800 to about 2900, a sulfo-chlorinated fatty acid, potassium hydroxide and a compound having the following structure: ##STR1## wherein R is a C.sub.10 -C.sub.20 aliphatic group and the total of z, x and y are such that the compound is water soluble. The composition also has utility as a lubricant for plain bearings and ways.
Abstract:
A soluble oil concentrate for forming stable emulsions of a minor part of concentrate and a major part of water. The concentrate comprises a combination of paraffinic and naphthenic base oils with an emulsifier package including a mahogany sulfonate, alkali metal hydroxide, alkylol amine, alkylene glycol, and carboxylic acids including fatty, rosin, and naphthenic acids.
Abstract:
A lubricant for high temperature metal forging applications comprises a water soluble inorganic salt whose melting point is below the metal working temperature, in admixture with an inorganic salt which decomposes to a gas at temperature below the metal working temperature, and one or more particulate lubricants. The low melting point inorganic salt is sodium nitrite and the decomposible salt is sodium bicarbonate. The particulate lubricant material may be graphite and/or zinc oxide pigment powder. Water may be added to the mixture and, in such case, surfactants and thickening agents are added to the formulation. Minor amounts of other ingredients such as an anti-oxidant, may also be added to the water-based embodiments.
