Abstract:
The invention pertains to a method of forming a lubricating film on a surface, said method comprising applying to a surface a multiphasic composition comprising at least one (per) fluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricant, water and from 0.1 to 3 % by weight of water of at least one thickening agent, said multiphasic composition having a viscosity, when measured at 21 °C at a shear rate of 1 sec -1 of at least 10 Pa*S so as to form a layer, and drying said layer to form a lubricating film. By the use of the multiphasic composition as above detailed it is advantageously possible to convoy the PFPE lubricant to the surface to be lubricated using application techniques (doctor blade, metering rod,...) as those suitable for solid-like greases, while the actual conveyed lubricant behaves in lubrication as an oil, avoiding the use of fluorinated solvents.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of ionic fluids for the production of water-resistant lubricating grease compositions, which are employed in a temperature range of at least -30°C to at least 180°C and have good anti-corrosion properties.

Abstract:
The invention concerns a threaded component for a seizure-resistant tubular threaded joint wherein a lubricating substance is deposited in a thin film on at least the surface of the threads of the threading, said surface being treated to adsorb said lubricating substance. The lubricating substance consists of a homogeneous mixture of a) a thickening agent; b) a set of extreme-pressure additives physically and chemically compatible with the thickening agent and comprising at least an extreme-pressure additive with chemical action called chemical EP additive and capable of being used at Hertz pressures not less than 1000 Mpa's; c) an oil. The proportions of the constituents of the lubricating substance are selected such that said lubricating substance has a consistency capable of ensuring a self-induced and film-forming lubricating process. The invention also concerns a method for producing the thin film.
Abstract:
A protective coating is formed on a metallic material surface by applying a treating agent comprising water, an alkali silicate, and a lubricating component to the surface and drying the treating agent. The coating film thereby formed has excellent anti-galling and rust preventive properties. If a lubricating component is present, the coating film also has excellent self-lubricating properties.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and at least one metal-free thiophosphorus acid ester, at least one amine salt of the thiophosphorus acid ester, or a mixture thereof, wherein the thiophosphorus acid ester contains at least one hydrocarbyl terminated oxyalkylene group, at least one hydrocarbyl terminated polyoxyalkylene group, or a mixture thereof. In one embodiment, the thiophosphorus acid ester is a thiophosphorus acid ester represented by the following formula wherein X1, X2, and X3 are oxygen or sulfur, provided that at least one of X1, X2, and X3 is sulfur; R1 is a hydrocarbyl group; R2 is an alkylene group; R3 is hydrogen or a hydrocarbyl group; x is a number from 1 to about 40; and a is 0, 1, or 2, or at least one salt of the thiophosphorus acid ester. The lubricating compositions, functional fluids and greases have improved antiwear/extreme pressure properties and improved antioxidation properties. In functional fluids, the thiophosphorus acid esters and their salts act as antiwear agents and rust inhibitors.
