Abstract:
In accordance with the method according to the invention, for the production of the plastics overlay, first of all a paste is made of a plastics dispersion and fillers. This paste is free of organic solvents and is applied to a sintered porous metal layer. The multilayer material thus produced is then sintered. Since the use of organic solvents is dispensed with, health risks and the risk of fire are reduced. Moreover, the composite materials produced according to the invention exhibit excellent cavitation resistance. In addition to conventional lubricant-free applications, such as bearings, these composite materials may consequently be used in particular in gear pumps and shock absorbers.
Abstract:
A self lubricating, friction and wear reducing composite material useful over a wide temperature range of from cryogenic temperature up to about 900.degree. C. contains 60-80 wt. % of particulate Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3, dispersed in a metal binder of a metal alloy containing Cr and at least 50 wt. % of Ni, Cr or a mixture of Ni and Cr. It also contains 5-20 wt. % of a fluoride of at least one Group I, Group II, or rare earth metal and, optionally, 5-20 wt. % of a low temperature lubricant metal. Such as Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, Rh and Cu. This composite exhibits less oxidation instability and less abrasiveness than composites containing chromium carbide, is readily applied using plasma spray and can be ground and polished with a silicon carbide abrasive.
Abstract:
An article having a multiphase composite lubricant coating of a hard refractory matrix phase of titanium nitride dispersed with particles of a solid lubricating phase of molybdenum disulfide is prepared by heating the article to temperatures between 350.degree. and 850.degree. C. in a reaction vessel at a reduced pressure and passing a gaseous mixture of Ti((CH.sub.3).sub.2 N).sub.4, MoF.sub.6, H.sub.2 S and NH.sub.3 over the heated article forming a multiphase composite lubricant coating on the article.
Abstract:
An improved method to lubricate a metal workpiece at elevated temperatures is described employing a novel polymer lubricant formed in situ. The novel lubricant is provided with a liquid mist of a lubricant preparation containing a vaporizable and polymerizable organic reactant in combination with graphite particulates being supplied to both workpiece and forming die at the elevated working temperatures.
Abstract:
A carrier-free pulverulent metalworking lubricant composition. In one preferred form, the composition contains at least two lubricant components one of which comprises a resin having a highly polar functional group the composition being formed by a method comprising the steps of: (a) forming a dry mixture of said particulate lubricant components, and (b) agglomerating said admixture to form agglomerated particles. The application of the composition as a metal working lubricant significantly reduces smoke and oily waste generation in hot forging operations by eliminating the use of oils or volatile organic compounds as carriers, while providing acceptable performance, cleanability, and sprayability.
Abstract:
This invention provides a coating for zinc coated steel surfaces and other zinc containing alloys, including zinc/iron, zinc/nickel, zinc/cobalt, zinc/aluminum, and any other suitable metal surface. The coating product of this inventions contains the following ingredients: copolymers made from acrylic, vinylacrylic, and acrylstyrene monomers, has carboxylic radicals from acrylic and/or methacrylic acids, and has an Ia of 30 to 60 mg. of KOH. The water soluble copolymers and lubricatory additives, which include natural or synthetic waxes, graphite, and molybdenum sulfide, are in solid form dispersed in aqueous solution at a ratio of from 1 to 10%.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are a solid lubricating composition comprising a solid lubricant, a lubricating oil which is in a liquid or paste form at an ordinary temperature, a carrier for absorbing and possessing said lubricating oil, and a thermosetting synthetic resin binder, and a sliding member comprising a metal substrate and a solid lubricant composed of the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
In a method of lubrication between two sliding members at least one of which is made of a ceramic material, the improvement according to the present invention is characterized in that soot as produced by burning a hydrocarbon fuel is supplied between the two sliding members.
Abstract:
A die-casting powdery mold releasing agent according to this invention is a mold releasing agent comprising a mixture of powdery or granulated mold releasing base material composed of an inorganic compound as used for lubricant in a solid form and an organic compound giving adhesive property to the mold releasing agent, the both having powdery or granulated configurations, or configurations in which the organic compound is covered on the mold releasing base material. The mold releasing agent allows production of castings of high quality, in the die-casting method with good workability and without worsening environmental situations.
Abstract:
A lubricant for the production of seamless tubes comprising water-insoluble fine synthetic resin particles, fine gilsonite and graphite, in which about 30 parts by weight of water-insoluble fine synthetic resin particles, from about 15 to about 30 parts by weight of fine gilsonite particles and from about 40 to about 55 parts by weight of fine graphite powder are contained.
