    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve one or more problems of conventional automation device.SOLUTION: A reaction vessel has a bottom drain opening which supports a selected unpressured head of fluid with the surface tension of the fluid. A processing zone of this device includes a support section for spaced rows of the reaction vessels, passages communicating with the drain openings of the supported vessels, and a pressure source for selectively discharging fluid through the drain openings. Horizontal bar magnets are supported for selected vertical migration between vessel rows. A dispensing head has X discharge opening(s) which can be selectively placed on X selected reaction vessel(s). A metering pump mechanism selectively meters X (X is at least four) selected amounts of fluid from a bulk feed section and selectively pumps the metered and selected amounts through the drain openings to the selected reaction vessels. A method of drawing fluid from vessels using a pressure source, and a method of moving the magnets in order to form a pellet of analyte are also included.
