Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a movable arm for a surgical tray, connected to a surgical console, adjustable in its height, and rotatable in 360° without limit. SOLUTION: An arm mechanism includes a movable wedge plate provided with an inclined recessed part co-operated with one end of a motion transfer pin. The horizontal movement of the wedge plate causes the vertical movement of the pin. The other end of the pin on the opposite side to the wedge plate actuates a release mechanism for causing an arm on which the tray is mounted to be raised and lowered via a pressurized gas cylinder. Such a construction enables complete 360° rotation of the tray without affecting the arm release mechanism. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ergonomically improved foot switch to be used to control a micro surgical console and to be adapted to various users. SOLUTION: This foot switch comprises a base, a pedal attached to the base and a pair of side switches attached rotatably to the base at both sides of the pedal. The side switches are adjustable against the pedal in order to expand or reduce the interval between the side switches. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for identifying a surgical cassette which needs to use no fragile tab. SOLUTION: The system comprises a surgical controlling system 10 and a cassette 22, wherein the cassette 22 has a set of identification tag 24 changing from opacity to transparency. Changing the opacity of the tag 24 enables the surgical controlling system 10 to identify easily the type of the working cassette 22. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical system in which a pressure within a irrigation fluid container is controlled without need for direct ventilation to a gas contained in the fluid container. SOLUTION: The surgical system having a cassette equipped with an aspirant collection chamber and an aspiration exhaust line that drains into the aspirant collection chamber is provided. A fluid from the irrigation fluid container is vented into the aspirant collection chamber by a fluid line containing a valve. A source of pressurized air is connected to the fluid container, and is used to pressurize the fluid container. When the pressure within the fluid container needs to be increased, pressurized air from the pressurized air source is allowed to enter the fluid container. When the pressure within the fluid container needs to be decreased, the irrigation fluid is allowed to be bled out of the fluid container and enter the collection chamber. In this manner, a direct fluidic connection with the gas contained in the fluid container does not need to be maintained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO

Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogel intraocular lens and a method for forming the same.SOLUTION: The present invention concerns an ophthalmological device material, more specifically an intraocular lens (IOL) formed from a hydrogel material. This hydrogel material includes an acrylate polymer and a radiation-resistant compound. This material representatively has a relatively high refractive index and/or exhibits a desired degree of radiation protection. The lens and/or hydrogel material representatively includes a UV chromophoric group, and this UV chromophoric group representatively includes a benzotriazole (e.g., 2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)benzotriazole).
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent misconnection between a connector and a tool.SOLUTION: An RFID ring illumination system includes an illumination ring and a printed circuit board. The illumination ring has a light refracting layer integral with the front of a surgical machine. The printed circuit board is located behind and close to the front of the surgical machine. The printed circuit board has an RFID reader antenna and a light source mounted on it. The light emitted by the light source travels through the illumination ring and is visible from the front of the surgical machine.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved type intraocular lens for compensating a plurality of aberrations.SOLUTION: An intraocular lens 10 is equipped with a posterior optical component 14 and an anterior optical component 12. One of the posterior optical components 14 and anterior optical component 12 provides compensation for a radially symmetric aberration, and the other optical component provides compensation for a radially asymmetric aberration.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for playing, storing, accessing, and retrieving multimedia content and providing the content to a surgical environment.SOLUTION: An audio playback function can provide a means to play background music in an operating room to provide a soothing and/or entertaining background to the surgical team and/or a patient. Further audio and video playback can provide a walkthrough of preparing surgical cassettes, hand pieces and other consumables used in ophthalmic surgery.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating or preventing angiogenesis-related disorders in a patient suffering from or predisposed to a disorder relating to angiogenesis.SOLUTION: A 3-benzoylphenyl acetic acid and its derivatives, including nepafenac, are used to treat angiogenesis-related disorders, including ophthalmic angiogenesis-related disorders such as diabetic retinopathy and exudative macular degeneration. The method for treating or preventing angiogenesis-related disorders in the patient suffering from or predisposed to such a disorder includes a process of giving a therapeutically effective amount of the 3-benzoylphenyl acetic acid of following formula or its derivatives to the patient.
