Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved method for producing a copolymer composed of at least one kind of hydrophilic N-vinyl lactam and at least one kind of hydrophobic comonomer and soluble in water to form a transparent solution by the radical copolymerization of the monomers in an organic solvent. SOLUTION: A vinyl lactam copolymer is produced by the radical polymerization of at least one kind of water-soluble N-vinyl lactam and at least one kind of hydrophobic comonomer in an organic solvent in the presence of an initiator. The polymerization is carried out under a gauge pressure to prevent the evaporation of the components. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-soluble copolymer of at least one kind of water-soluble N-vinyl lactam and at least one kind of hydrophobic comonomer by the radical polymerization of the monomers in an organic solvent. SOLUTION: A vinyl lactam copolymer is produced by the radical polymerization of at least one kind of water-soluble N-vinyl lactam and at least one kind of hydrophobic comonomer in an organic solvent in the presence of an initiator under refluxing condition. In the above method, at least 10 mol% of the N-vinyl lactam is added to the polymerization mixture when at least 90 mol% of the hydrophobic monomer is completely reacted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thiol, a thioether, and a disulfide, by reacting an olefin with hydrogen sulfide. SOLUTION: This method for preparing a sulfur-containing compound expressed by general formula I (Q is -S- or -S-S-; and R 1 is H or a 1-30C saturated or unsaturated straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl and R 2 is H or a 1-30C saturated or unsaturated straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl, provided that R 1 and R 2 are not allowed to be H at the same time) comprises reacting a mixed gas stream containing the hydrogen sulfide with the 1-30C straight-chain or branched-chain olefin by using, or not using, oxygen, wherein reaction is conducted at a pressure of 2-325 bar in the presence of water and carbon dioxide. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide filler-containing paper which can more efficiently fix the filler to pulp fibers than conventional paper to reduce an ash content in the paper, improve the opacity of the paper, and impart excellent optical characteristics to the paper, and to provide a method for producing the filler-containing paper, by which the reduction in the amount of the used filler on the making of the paper, the decrease in a paper machine and its auxiliary facilities due to the unfixed filler, the reduction of environmental loads, and the improvement of economical efficiency can be achieved. SOLUTION: This filler-containing paper contains (A) a polymer which contains N-vinylformamide as at least a polymerization component and in which 20 to 100% of all the formyl groups are hydrolyzed, and (B) titanium dioxide and/or calcium carbonate.
