    Abstract: A plug for use in a counterbalancing mechanism of a cable-operated door . The plug is mounted about an overhead shaft and used for operatively connecting the overhead shaft to a torsion spring coaxially mounted thereon. The plug includes a cylindrical collar and a cylindrical flange. The cylindrical coll ar has opposite first and second portions. The collar is provided with a hooking sl ot for hooking a free end of the torsion spring therein and the torsion spring has a segment coaxially mounted about the first portion of the collar. The cylindrical flange is rigidly affixed to the second portion of the collar. The flange is used for transferring a torque between the torsion spring and the overhead shaft when the flange is securely fixed about the overhead shaft. The plug further includes a shouldering floor of a given length faced against the hooking slot and extending inside the collar, from the second portion towards the first portion thereof , between the collar and the overhead shaft.

    Abstract: A plug for operatively connecting a torsion spring onto a corresponding component of a counterbalancing mechanism of a door assembly. The plug includes a connecting portion for removably connecting the plug onto the corresponding component, a substantially cylindrical collar insertable into an end portion of the torsion spring, an anchoring portion disposed on a bottom section of the collar for cooperating with a coil of the end portion of the torsion spring so as to pivotally anchor the collar onto the end portion of the torsion spring, and a clip projecting from a top section of the collar, and being disposed at a location on the collar substantially diametrically opposite from where the anchoring portion is disposed on the bottom section of the collar. The clip is shaped and sized for clasping past an end coil of the torsion spring and operatively engaging with the same so as to securely mount the plug onto the end portion of the torsion spring in a clip-like manner, thereby enabling the plug to be mounted onto the torsion spring quickly and easily.

    Abstract: A ratchet-like system for winding a rolling door assembly. The ratchet- like system includes a support bracket, a cam, and a biasing device. The support bracket is preferably mounted onto a fixed structure of the rolling door assembly. The cam is pivotally mounted about the support bracket and positioned adjacent to a portion of an overhead shaft of the assembly. The cam is shaped and sized to cooperate with this portion of the overhead shaft between a first position, where the cam allows rotation of the overhead shaft along a first direction, and a second position, where the cam has a surface engaged with the overhead shaft and where further rotation of the overhead shaft along a second direction, opposite to the first direction, is blocked by the cam. The biasing device is used for urging the surface of the cam onto the overhead shaft. The ratchet-like system is particularly useful for adjustably controlling the rotation of the overhead shaft of the rolling door assembly during the winding thereof.

    Abstract: A braking device configured for use with the counterbalancing system of a garage door. The braking device includes a support bracket, a ratchet wheel, a pawl arm, and a biasing spring. The support bracket is rigidly connected to a fixed structure and has a guiding slot. The ratchet wheel is securely mounted about the overhead shaft of the counterbalancing system and has at least one notch. The pawl arm has first and second ends, the first end of the pawl arm being pivotally connected to the support bracket and the second end of the pawl arm cooperating with the guiding slot and being movable with respect to the support bracket along said guiding slot. The first and second ends of the pawl arm are further connected to flanges of a plug on either side of the overhead shaft. The biasing spring is operatively connected between the support bracket and the pawl arm so as to exert a biasing force for biasing the pawl arm towards the ratchet wheel. The pawl arm is devised so that, an element thereof is adjacent to the ratchet wheel, said element being shaped and sized to be removably insertable into at least one notch of the ratchet wheel so as to block rotation of the ratchet wheel, and thus block rotation of the overhead shaft, in the event of a failure of the counterbalancing system of the door.

    Abstract: A cable failure device for a mobilizing a garage door in the event of a failure of one of the cables or one of the elements holding the cables is described. The cable failure device of the invention includes a support structure mounted on the cable operated door and includes a connection point onto which a tensioned cable is connected. A braking assembly is mounted onto the support structure and includes a casing mounted onto the support structure and a brake operable between a rest position and an operable position. The brake is movably mounted to the support structure and is located adjacent the outside of a fixed frame such as guide rails and is adapted to co-operate with a roller on the garage door so that a portion of the guide rail lies between the roller and the brake. A tension detector co-operating with the tension cable is provided for detecting a tension in the tension cable and an actuator is operatively connected to the tension detector and to the brake. When the brake is in the rest position, the rollers guide the door along the rail and when the brake is triggered into the operable position by a loss of tension in the cable detected by the tension detector, it causes the actuator to actuate the brake so that it engages the outside of these rails, thereby urging the brake and one of the rollers towards each other. This combined action brakes the movement of the cable operated door and thus impedes its free falling to the ground, thereby preventing damages and injuries.

    Abstract: The plug is for use with a torsion spring and is removably connectable to a component of a counterbalancing mechanism. The plug comprises a generally circular base and a hollow body coaxially projecting from the base. The body has an outer surface for receiving an end of the torsion spring. At least two spaced-apart connection flanges are axially projecting from the base and opposite to the body. Each flange comprises a pair of opposite side shoulders. The flanges are removably inserted into the component for connecting the plug thereto in interfering engagement. Plugs that are constructed accordingly create modular and versatile sub-assemblies with other components. Such plugs are then easily secured in place and do require an extensive inventory of parts to accommodate all situations.

    Abstract: A tensioning assembly (1) for winding a winding system (5).
