In one embodiment, the pipe joining material comprises a thermoplastic material such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and/or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) and a bonding agent for the thermoplastic material.

A vacuum cleaner has a front, an upper portion and a lower portion. The vacuum cleaner comprises an air flow passage extending from a nozzle having a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet. A cyclone unit comprises at least one cyclone having a cyclone air inlet positioned in the air flow passage. A suction motor is positioned in the air flow passage. In one aspect, the vacuum cleaner is a hand vacuum cleaner and the nozzle is positioned at a lower portion of the hand vacuum cleaner and preferably below the vacuum cleaner. In another aspect, the vacuum cleaner is a hand vacuum cleaner and the nozzle includes a lower open sided passage. In accordance with another aspect, the vacuum cleaner has an air treatment member that is positioned at least partially above the air inlet.

A cyclone separator useable in a surface cleaning apparatus comprises a cyclone casing defining a cyclone chamber and having first and second opposed ends and a sidewall extending between the first and second ends. In one configuration, a transition member is provided adjacent the end of the cyclone casing distal to the fluid inlet. The transition member has an inner surface that extends inwardly between the sidewall and the distal end. In another configuration, methods of opening the cyclone chamber and the dirt collection chamber are provided. In other configurations the angular position of the dirt outlet and the spacing of the dirt collection chamber from the cyclone chamber are provided.
