    Abstract: Images of the face of a subject are captured by an imaging system comprising at least three directional energy sources (e.g. a light sources), and an imaging assembly which captures the images from spatially separated viewpoints. Each eye portion of the face is modelled using specular reflections (“glints”) in at least some of the images to fit the parameters of a three-dimensional parameterized model of the eye surface. Additionally, using at least some the images, a photometric modelling process generates a second model of a skin and/or hair portion of the face. A face model is produced by combining the second model and the eye models. The resulting face model may be used to generate images of the face in relation to an object intended to be used in proximity to the face, such as an item of eyewear. The face model may also be used to design and produce the object.

    Abstract: A method for generating a three-dimensional model of a head including a face, comprising: obtaining a distance image of the head using a distance-measuring device having an imaging position, the distance image comprising for each of a two-dimensional array of distance pixels, a respective distance value indicating a distance from the measuring position to a corresponding point in a field of view of the distance-measuring device, the distance image including a face portion corresponding to the face; estimating the position, relative to the imaging position, of a longitudinal axis of the model of the head based on the at least one dimension; based on the longitudinal axis, defining a plurality of spatial regions extending from the longitudinal axis; allocating each distance value to a corresponding one of the spatial regions; for each spatial region to which one or more distance values have been allocated, generating a corresponding portion of the three-dimensional model of the head based on the distance values allocated to that spatial region.

    Abstract: An apparatus for computing a 3D model of an object comprises successively illuminating the object from at least three illumination directions and capturing 101 at least three images of the object with one or more sensors (cameras), in which different images represent the object when illuminated from one of the illumination directions. Reference features corresponding to object landmarks are identified 102 in one of the images. Corresponding features are identified 103 in at least some of the other captured images. The positions of the reference features in the images are used to estimate 104 image viewpoints from which the motion of the object relative to the cameras may be determined. The estimated motion is used to register the images in a common coordinate system, and thereby correct for the relative motion of the object and imaging system between different times at which the images were captured. The registered images are used to generate 105 a 3D model of the object. The reference features are selected such that they are likely to be landmarks on the object, rather than on a background behind the object.
