Abstract: A train of rotating shafts comprise an input shaft (16), an output shaft (34) and a plurality of intermediate shafts (22,28) all provided with sprockets (14,24,30) for items (52) being fed and rotating so that the items are passed from shaft to shaft. The intermediate shafts (22,28) provide a buffer facility which allows for differences between the instantaneous infeed rate and the instantaneous outfeed rate. This is achieved in that the intermediate shafts (22,28) can be swung about the input shaft (16) and outputshaft (34) respectively while maintaining a fixed spacing between the intermediate shafts (22,28). One sense of such movement reduces the outfeed rate below the infeed rate while the other sense increases the outfeed rate above the infeed rate. The apparatus may be used as a buffer between a constant feed-rate shell feed unit and a gun taking shells at a fluctuating rate.

Abstract: A marine container for holding liquefied gas wherein a metal tank having the general shape of a surface of revolution is designed to contain a liquefied gas by maintaining a low temperature therewithin via a surrounding thermal insulation barrier. A first layer of foamed polymeric panels, each having a predetermined hole pattern, are supported by studs affixed to said exterior surface and extending into the holes. Fibrous insulation fills the remainder of the holes and the joints between the edges of adjacent panels. Heat-insulating posts extend outward from the studs and support a layer of fibrous insulation and a third layer of foamed polymeric panels having an offset hole pattern. Fasteners secure the third layer panels upon the posts. Insulating material is foamed in situ through apertures in the fasteners to fill the holes around the posts.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To protect a missile so that an ignition exhaust gas cannot be blown out through a missile chamber, by providing a door at the rear part of each canister, opening the door with the exhaust gas of an ignited cell, and performing operation so that other cells can be closed. CONSTITUTION: Space 50A and 50B is formed at the rear part of missile canisters 16 and 16, and doors 56A and 56B are provided inside and can be rotated by a hinge mechanism around a rotation point 58. While the doors 56A and 56B are closed, end parts 62A and 62B are in contact with the lower end of a wall 30 that is adjacent to an upper transition part 14. On the other hand, while the doors 56A and 56B are open, the end parts 62A and 62B are in contact with a vertical flat plate 53. the operation of the doors 56A and 56B in the above configuration is given by an ignited gas pressure. An exhaust gas that is ignited by one of the missile canisters 16 and 16 passes transition parts 12 and 14 and flows to an exhaust plenum 24 and does not return to the other missile canister 16.
