Abstract:
Methods and compositions are provided for forming ester based compositions. The ester based compositions may be used in consumer products. In one aspect, a method is provided for producing acyl alkylisethionate esters by the esterification of a sulfonate composition having two or more sulfonate isomers with fatty acid(s). In another aspect, a method is provided for forming an ester based composition including a blend of acyl alkylisethionate and acylisethionate esters.
Abstract:
Acylalkylisethionate esters are produced by reacting one or more carboxylic acids with one or more alkyl-substituted hydroxyalkyl sulfonates under esterification reaction conditions. The alkyl-substituted hydroxyalkyl sulfonates used as a raw material in producing the esters are prepared by reacting bisulfate with one or more alkylene oxides. The acylalkylisethionate esters may be used in consumer products.

Abstract:
Provided herein are compositions useful as detergents in cleaning a wide variety of substrates, including hard surfaces and laundry. The compositions contain a water-soluble polymer, which is a co-polymer between a polymerizable amide and a second, ethylenically-unsaturated monomer. The polymerizable amide itself is prepared from an amine-capped, alkoxylated alcohol by reaction with maleic acid anhydride. Compositions according to the invention show enhanced cleaning performance and beneficial anti-redeposition properties.

Abstract:
This invention is directed to detergent compositions which employ sulfonated alkyltoluenes as surfactants, wherein the sulfonated alkyltoluenes have a higher content of the sulfonated 2-phenyl alkyltoluenes isomers than was previously available in sulfonated alkyltoluene surfactants of the prior art. Cleaning compositions according to the invention are more effective as cleaning agents over their counterparts of prior art which contain sulfonated alkyltoluenes having lower contents of the 2-phenyl alkyltoluene isomers, owing to an unexpected increase in tolerance of water hardness minerals normally associated with precipitation of the active detergent agent. Solid sulfonate salts of alkyltoluenes are also provided, including dry cleaning formulations containing same. The alkyltoluenes of this invention may be combined with alkylbenzene surfactants in order to provide detergent blends having increased water hardness tolerance, lower Krafft temperature, and increased cleaning performance over what was previously afforded by the prior art.

Abstract:
Techniques for monitoring a machine for significant deviations from normal operations include collecting, at a first processing element, sensor data about the machine. The first processing element performs narrowband frequency domain processing to determine a segment of sensor data that indicates a deviation from normal operations that exceeds a threshold deviation. A message including the segment of sensor data is sent to a second processing element. In response to receiving the message, the second processing element performs different narrowband frequency domain processing to determine whether the deviation from normal operations is significant for maintaining the machine. If the deviation from normal operations is determined to be significant for maintaining the machine, then the deviation is reported to cause the machine to be maintained.

Abstract:
A method of preparing an inorganic pigment dispersion useful in the preparation of latex paints is provided. The method comprises dispersing an inorganic pigment in an aqueous medium further comprised of a dispersing polymer, said aqueous medium being essentially free of volatile organic solvents. The dispersing polymer is derived from monomers consisting essentially of an ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomer having an unsubstituted ethylenic group, an ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomer having an alkyl-substituted ethylenic group, and an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer. The amount of the ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer is sufficient to permit the dispersing polymer to associate with an inorganic pigment in an aqueous medium in a manner which disperses the inorganic pigment in the aqueous medium to form a stable aqueous dispersion of said inorganic pigment. The total amount of the ethylenically unsaturated aromatic monomers is sufficient to reduce the water sensitivity of a dried coating of a latex paint comprised of said stable aqueous dispersion of said inorganic pigment. Use of the inorganic pigment dispersions to prepare latex paints, and latex paints resulting from such use, are also provided.
