Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To aim at gaining both the improvement of sensitivity suppression and that of distortion characteristics in RF-AGC operation.
SOLUTION: A first signal path including a first LNA 3 is connected to a second one including an antenna damping circuit 4 and a second LNA 5 in parallel for changing to one of the first and second signal paths to control gain of a reception signal. When a level of the reception signal is higher than a first threshold, a level of the reception signal is once attenuated by the antenna damping circuit 4 before a level of the reception signal is amplified by a required amount by the second LNA 5, thus controlling a gain of the reception signal by the total of the attenuation and amplification, and hence reducing a level of a signal inputted to the second LNA 5 and preventing the signal from being distorted easily in the amplification.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently suppress the image component by exactly correcting a phase error and amplitude error of an I signal and a Q signal.
SOLUTION: The transmitter includes: a BPF 15 for extracting an image frequency component from a modulation signal generated by modulating the I signal and the Q signal by an orthogonal modulation unit 3; an energy detecting unit 16 for detecting the energy of the image frequency component; and an amplitude correcting unit 12 and a phase correcting unit 13 for correcting the amplitude and phase of the I signal so that the detected energy is minimized. The transmitter does not detect the amplitude error or phase error itself of the I signal and Q signal, but corrects the amplitude and phase so that the energy of the image frequency component included in the generated modulation signal may be minimized. In this way, the amplitude error and phase error between the I signal and the Q signal are exactly corrected without being influenced by the limit of error detection accuracy.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compose an AM broadcasting reception circuit, which prevents distortion in an output signal and beat interference from occurring easily even if inputting a large signal, in a small circuit scale.
SOLUTION: A JFET 4 as an antenna buffer of an AM broadcasting signal is composed in a 100% negative feed back type source follower. In the poststage of the JFET 4, a tuning circuit comprising a variable capacity circuit 7 and a transformer 6 is provided. Further, in the poststage, an amplifier circuit comprising MOSFETS 10, 11 is provided. As a result, signal distortion in the JFET 4 is restrained, and inconvenience is prevented, where all frequency components enter the amplifier circuit, the amplifier circuit is saturated, and the output signal is distorted. Also, a capacitance value is varied by switching a plurality of capacitors CT1, CT2, ..., CTn without using any varactor diodes, thus integrating the capacitors CT1, CT2, ..., CTn in an IC 20.
