    Abstract: A man-made vitreous fibre (MMVF) plant growth substrate is provided. The substrate has properties including a volume of 3 to 20 litres, two layers of differing density, and the use of a hydrophilic binding system. This is found to provide a substrate which allows excellent control of the water and/or nutrient contents within the substrate when used for plant growth.

    Abstract: A method and an apparatus for horizontally splitting a mineral wool web includes a conveyor having a first direction of travel adapted for receiving and advancing a cured mineral wool web in said first direction. At least one dividing device is provided for longitudinally dividing the cured mineral wool web into at least two sub-webs as said cured mineral wool web is advanced passed said at least one dividing device. At least one lifting mechanism is provided downstream of the dividing device so that a section of the conveyor is adapted for lifting a sub-web. At least one horizontal cutting device is provided for horizontally cutting the sub-web whilst lifted in said conveyor section.

The aqueous binder composition prior to curing includes a component (i) in the form of one or more oxidized lignins, a component (ii) in the form of one or more cross-linkers, and a component (iii) in the form of one or more plasticizers.

A method of propagating a Cannabis cutting can include: providing a coherent growth substrate comprising man-made vitreous fibres bonded with a cured binder composition, the growth substrate having a density in the range of 60 kilograms per cubic meter (kg/m3) to 70 kg/m3; inserting the Cannabis cutting into the growth substrate at a location where the growth substrate does not have a seed hole; and providing a nutrient solution having an electrical conductivity value between 1.6 milli-Siemens per centimeter (mS/cm) and 2.4 mS/cm to the Cannabis cutting in the growth substrate.
