    Abstract: A piston pump and a method for determining a volume Veff of a liquid medium delivered to a consumer by a double acting, pneumatically driven piston pump, wherein the piston pump is subject to leakage when a constant pressure is acting on a drive of the piston pump and at least one double stroke of a piston pump from one dead center position thereof to the other dead center position thereof and back to the first dead center position is carried out includes: a. without the piston pump being able to deliver the medium to the consumer, a leakage time tL auf for one stroke of the piston pump from the bottom dead center position thereof to the top dead center position thereof is measured, b. without the piston pump being able to deliver the medium to the consumer, a leakage time tL ab for one stroke of the piston pump from the top dead center position thereof to the bottom dead center position thereof is measured, c. a quotient of a volume of the medium Vauf theoretically delivered by the piston pump without leakage and of the leakage time tL auf is determined for the stroke of the piston pump from the bottom dead center position to the top dead center position, d. a quotient of a volume Vab theoretically delivered by the piston pump without leakage and of the leakage time tL ab is determined for the stroke of the piston pump from the top dead center position to the bottom dead center position, e. the time tauf for the stroke of the piston pump from the bottom dead center position to the top dead center position and the time tab for the stroke of the piston pump from the top dead center position to the bottom dead center position is measured as the medium is delivered to the consumer, f. the effectively delivered volume Veff is multiplied by the number of double strokes in accordance with V eff = ( V auf - V auf t L   auf × t auf ) + ( V ab - V ab t L   ab × t ab ) .

    Abstract: A device for melting adhesive having a melting grill that has a multiplicity of passage openings, and heating elements, wherein the melting grill is heatable by the heating elements and melted adhesive heated by the hot melting grill is dischargeable through the passage openings, the melting grill on that side thereof that faces the adhesive to be melted having ribs. The melting grill has rotatable rods that are disposed beside one another and ribs that are disposed on the rods, the rods and the ribs being heatable by the heating elements, wherein ribs of adjacent rods are aligned so as to be directed toward one another, and the passage cross sections of the passage openings between the rods are modifiable by rotating rods of the melting grill. The device enables varied forms of delivery of solid adhesive to be melted at a high specific melting rate without the adhesive thereby being subjected to damage due to excessive thermal stress.

In a method for applying adhesive to a substrate, excess adhesive that has not been applied to the substrate is disposed of.
