Abstract: A transfer lift for ceramic slabs is mounted on a base plate (1) by means of a vertical pivot shaft. Two horizontal arms (8,9), perpendicular to each other, are attached to the pivot shaft so that they are able to rotate over an angle of 180 deg. At the free end of each index arm (8,9) a vertical lifting column (15) is provided. A slider head (20) on each column carries a horizontal arm which is provided with a pneumatically operated transfer clamp (45,46). As one arm lifts off a frame with slabs from a conveyor, the second arm picks up an empty frame from a stack. The two arms then index through 90 deg. so that a full tray of slabs is moved away from the conveyor whilst the second arm places an empty tray in its position.

Abstract: The system assembles, separates and feeds to packing boxes ceramic tiles previously graded for quality by a computer. The speed of the conveyor for the tiles already graded is regulated so that the distance between adjacent tiles is sufficient to allow insertion of one or more. The separately selected tiles are removed under control of the computer and held in buffer store units until a number has accumulated in each sufficient to fill a box completely. The tiles from a store unit are then inserted in the intervals between incoming tiles of the same grade, and when processing of a batch of this grade is complete a changeover is made to another one. The computer halts the grading unit temporarily if one of the store units can take no more tiles in, and stops the complete conveyor if all are simultaneously full up.
