Abstract: PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform adjustment in conformity with a cosine rule by similarly illuminating the entire surface of the peripheral surface of a light diffusing plate with incident light which is cast on the incident surface of the light diffusing plate at an angle exceeding 0 degree (vertical) and less than 90 (horizontal). CONSTITUTION:The light which is cast through an incident light window 7 is diffused through a light diffusing plate 2a and guided into a light diffusing plate 2b. The diameter of the diffusing plate 2a is made smaller than the diameter of the incident window 7. Therefore, the slant incident light is cast through the front surface and the side surface of the diffusing plate 2a. The peripheral part of the incident window 7 becomes a light screening part, and the light other than the object to be measured exceeding a horizontal angle (90 degrees) is not cast in. Therefore, the amount of the incident light can be accurately corrected at the value that is approximate to the cosine rule. As a measuring instrument, it is necessary that the ratio between the diameters of the incident window 7 and the diffusing plate 2a is 0.8 or less. The diffusing plates 2a and 2b are arranged so that the directions where the light diffusing characteristics become the maximum values are intersected at a right angle. Therefore, even if the sensitivity of the slant incident light in the diffusing plate 2a is in short with respect to the cosine rule, the sensitivity of the slant incident light can be corrected in conformity with the cosine rule because the diffusing plate 2b generates the inverse action with respect to the diffusing plate 2a.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the stability and accuracy of a measured value by propagating reflected light beams from a sample installed in an integrating sphere and a reference standard plate through the same optical path, and switching the reflected light beams and making then incident on a spectroscope alternately. CONSTITUTION:The light from the light source 11 is made incident on the integrating sphere 1 from an incidence opening 7, and diffused and reflected by its internal wall. The diffuse reflected light is reflected by the sample 2 and reference standard plate 3 and this reflected luminous flux exits from the integrating sphere 1 through a photodetection opening. When an optical path conversion part 9 installed nearby the photodetection opening 4 is off the optical path of the reflected luminous flux from the sample 2, the reflected luminous flux from the sample 2 is made incident on the light incidence opening 8' of the spectroscope 8 through a condenser lens 14. Further, when the optical path conversion part 9 is in the optical path of the reflected luminous flux from the sample 2, the luminous flux from the reference standard plate 3 is switched by a reflecting mirror group 13 and made incident on the light incidence opening 8' through the lens 14 after being propagated through the same optical path with the reflected luminous flux from the sample 2.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable the estimation and computation of the result obtained when irradiation is made in the distribution of a solar light, by a method wherein only a specified wavelength is taken out of all wavelengths contained in an irradiating light, the light of this wavelength is applied to a sample and the relationship of an energy by the wavelength with discoloration is measured. CONSTITUTION:An image of a light source 15 is converged in a slit 12 through an elliptical mirror 14. A light flux coming out of the slit 12 is divided into a light by a wavelength in a spectral chamber 2 and applied to a sample 7. In front of this sample 7 a removable half mirror 5 is provided, and a part of the light flux is bent thereon and detected by a photodetector group 6. A signal from the photodetector group 6 passes through an amplifier 8 and an arithmetic circuit 9, and a value of an energy by the wavelength is displayed in a display unit 10. In this way, the result obtained when irradiation is made in the distribution of a solar light can be estimated and computed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To measure the water content of snow particles continuously by calculating the ratio of the coloring area of a water absorbing raw element based upon water sticking on snow particles and the coloring area after heat melting. CONSTITUTION:An extremely small amount of snow particles 16 of falling snow are put in the sampling chamber 3 in a measuring instrument continuously and received on a water-absorbing raw material 6 containing a material colored by adding water; and water sticking on snow particles 16 is absorbed by the raw material 6, which colors. Then a photodetection sensor 9 measures the area of the coloring part on the raw material 6. Then the raw material is moved to a melting chamber 2 successively and snow on the raw material in powder is all heated and melted into water, which is absorbed by the raw material 6 for coloring. Then the area of the coloring part is measured by a photodetection sensor 10. Then the ratio of the area of the coloring parts before and after the heat melting is computed by an arithmetic processor 13 to measure the water content of snow particles in falling snow continuously.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To make full observation of crystals possible by installing a falling particle photographing device extending over a snow generating room and a weather proof snowfall laboratory to allow free ascent and descent. CONSTITUTION:When observing snow crystals in a snow generating room and a weather proof snowfall laboratory, a falling particle photographing device 1 is moved to an optional position by operating a hoist. Snow crystal particles are collected on a transparent film 19 from a collecting port 14, and photographed by a television camera 13. The transparent film 19 is moved finely in horizontal direction by a film feeding device 26 and wound. The state of snow crystal particles that fall successively on the film surface 19 is photographed continuously by the television camera 13 and observed. Thus, concrete progress of formation of snow can be observed.
