    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-invasive method for detecting, positioning and tracing a pathogen in living bodies such as mammalians, and other materials. SOLUTION: The non-invasive method is to detect expression of a heterogous gene in a living non-human mammalian object. The method includes a process for providing the non-human mammalian object having cells containing an introduced gene, wherein (i) the introduced gene contains a heterogous gene encoding bioluminescent proteins or fluorescent proteins and (ii) the object contains opaque tissues, and a process for detecting the expression of the heterogous gene by measuring photon irradiation passing through the opaque tissues by using a photodetector, wherein the object is maintained under a condition permitting the expression of the heterogous gene by the cells.
