Abstract:
Vaccines are provided for vaccinating an animal against pathogenic bacteria, including (E. coli). The invention also encompasses methods of preparing and methods of use of vaccine strains and compositions that result from or are used in these methods.
Abstract:
New proteins and subunit antigens from P. haemolytica for use in stimulating immunity against respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, including shipping fever pneumonia, are disclosed. The subunit antigens include immunogenic amino acid sequences of P. haemolytica fimbrial protein, P. haemolytica plasmin receptor protein, and P. haemolytica 50 K outer membrane protein and P. haemolytica leukotoxin. The antigens can be used in a vaccine composition, either alone or in combination. Also disclosed are methods of vaccination as well as methods of making the subunit antigens employed in the vaccines.
Abstract:
A biphasic multilamellar lipid vesicle comprising a plurality of spaced apart lipid bilayers that include a liposome-forming component and optionally a biologically active agent entrapped within the lipid bilayers. The lipid vesicle also comprises peripheral aqueous solution compartments formed between the lipid bilayers and a central lipophilic core compartment substantially at the center of the multilamellar lipid vesicle.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for preparing and delivering encapsulated biologically active agents to specific cell types are disclosed. Substances can be encapsulated in the VP6 inner capsid protein of rotavirus and delivered to selected cells, tissues and organs. Targeting agents can be linked to the surface of the VP6 sphere so that appropriate agents can be delivered to preselected cells and tissue types.
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for modulating SRIF activity as well as enhancing the reproductive performance and immunological function in vertebrates are disclosed. Compositions containing SRIF-related peptides or antibodies thereto can be administered to animals to modulate endogenous SRIF-like activity. The SRIF-related peptides can be linked to a carrier such as ovalbumin, and administered in an Al(OH)3 adjuvant, to enhance the immunogenicity of the SRIF-related peptides.
Abstract:
Synthetic peptides corresponding to antigenic determinants of three major neutralizing proteins of bovine rotavirus are disclosed. These peptides are useful in stimulating immunity and interfering with viral infectivity and can be used as vaccines and in other ways for treatment, prevention or diagnosis of rotavirus infections of birds and animals including man.
