    Abstract: The present invention relates to boron-containing compositions. The invention relates to comminuted, heterogeneous boron-containing compositions which are obtainable by a process which comprises heating to a temperature sufficiently high that calcination occurs but insufficient for the formation of a homogeneous melt a mixture comprising components capable, under the conditions of heating, of forming the oxides B 2 O 3 and SiO 2 and optionally Al 2 O 3 , Na 2 O and/or CaO in proportions such that the relative percentages by weight of the said oxides, based on the total weight of said oxides, are as follows: 5 to 35% B 2 O 3 ; 10 to 65% SiO 2 ; 0 to 35% Al 2 O 3 ; and up to 20% Na 2 O and/or up to 50% CaO; with the proviso that the said B 2 O 3 content is not 10 to 18%, when the other contents are as follows: 40 to 65% SiO 2 , 17 to 32% Al 2 O3 4 to 9% Na 2 O, and O to 10% CaO, and then comminuting the resulting composition. By varying the proportions of the ingredients and the heating conditions, there may be obtained products of differing boron solubility characteristics according to the desired use of the products. Such compositions may be used as a source of boron in ceramics and heavy clay bodies, glass and fiberglass; in agriculture; as wood preservatives and pesticides; in polymers and rubbers; in wood, including wood-plastic composites; as flame retardant; in intumescent materials; in paints and coatings, in soaps and detergents; in cosmetics; in industrial fluids; in steel slag; in water treatment; and in gypsum wallboard as well as in glazes.

    Abstract: Improved methods for preparing copper and zinc imidazolates, M(C 3 H 3 N 2 ) 2 (M = Zn, Cu), and their C-substituted derivatives, including copper and zinc 2-methyl-imidazolates, 2- ethylimidazolates and benzimidazolates, by reaction of a copper or zinc source with an imidazole-containing compound in aqueous media in the absence of base, and preferably in the presence of an acid. The invention also provides novel copper-zinc bimetallic imidazolates. The copper and zinc imidazolate compounds are useful as biocides and biostats and in coatings systems.

    Abstract: Lumber, plywood and other wood products are preserved from attack by fungi, termites and wood-destroying insects as well as fire and flame by treatment with a novel zirconium borate-containing preservative composition. The preservative can be formed by combination of a source of boron such as boric acid and the water-soluble salts thereof with a water-soluble zirconium salt. The ZrO2:B2O3 weight ratio in the preservative composition is in the range of from about 0.75:1 to about 10:1.

    Abstract: The present disclosure provides a flexible container. In an embodiment, the flexible container incudes an outer bag and a liner positioned within in the outer bag. The liner substantially corresponds to the outer flexible bag. The outer bag and the liner each include (i) a body having a sidewall, (ii) a top panel, and (iii) a bottom panel. The sidewall has a height, a top end, and an opposing bottom end. The top panel extends from the sidewall top end and an inlet extends from the top panel. The bottom panel extends from the sidewall bottom end and an elongated discharge spout extends from the bottom panel. The outer bag elongated discharge spout and the liner elongated discharge spout each have a length from 0.40 times to 1.0 times the height of the respective outer bag sidewall and the liner sidewall. The present disclosure also provides a material discharge assembly for removing flowable granular material from the flexible container.

    Abstract: A method of forming lithium carbonate from a lithium-bearing solution including: evaporating the lithium-bearing solution to precipitate a first group of impurities; removing the first group of impurities to form a first purified solution; and performing a flash crystallisation step within a predetermined temperature range to crystallise a second group of impurities; removing the second group of impurities from the first solution to form a second purified solution, wherein at least 95wt% of lithium is recovered from the first purified solution; and reacting the second solution with a metal carbonate to form lithium carbonate of at least 90wt% purity.

    Abstract: Amorphous boric oxide-containing product having about 80 to 90 % B2O3 is produced by heating boric acid to an elevated temperature of about 180 DEG to 220 DEG C to dehydrate the boric acid and form a molten glass which is cooled to a solid glassy product. The solid glass can be comminuted to produce a particulate product. Preferably the boric acid is heated at about 195 DEG to 205 DEG C. The process is readily adapted to a continuous process in which the boric acid is continuously fed through a heated reactor-mixer such as a Kneadermaster mixer or Discotherm mixer. The molten glassy product is cooled to form a solid glassy product which can be comminuted to a desirable particle size range.
