Abstract: An LCD and a fabrication method thereof are provided to detect a short-circuit and disconnection of a data line by forming a protection layer including a contact hole exposing a conductive layer. A plurality of gate lines(170) and a plurality of data lines(160a,160b,160c,160d) define pixel areas. A detection pad part(190) is electrically connected to the data line, is formed at an outer edge of the pixel area, and includes a contact hole(192). Repair lines(180a,180b) repair an open defect of the data line. The data lines include a first data line intersecting the gate line to define the pixel area, a second data line formed at an outer edge of the pixel area, connected to one side of a detection pad, and extending from the data line. A third data line is connected to the other side of the detection pad. A fourth data line connects the repair lines.
