Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method are provided to achieve improved efficiency of air conditioning operation by permitting multiple indoor units installed in a single indoor area to cooperate with each other. CONSTITUTION: An air conditioner comprises a plurality of indoor unit(51,52,53,54) arranged in sections(40A,40B,40C,40D) of a single indoor area(40), wherein each of the indoor units is equipped with an indoor unit controller for controlling the air flow in such a manner that the heat exchanged air is discharged to the corresponding section and adjacent section. The indoor unit controller includes a communication part for communication between indoor units, a position input part(61) for setting the positions of the indoor units, and an air flow changing part for changing the flow direction of the heat exchanged air.
