Abstract: PURPOSE: An image enhancement apparatus and a method thereof for improving color component distribution analysis through adaptive optimal color images are provided to maximize picture quality of the color images by utilizing the additional input information of the display device. CONSTITUTION: A histogram/accumulated distribution function calculator(120) calculates a chromatic histogram. The calculator calculates the herbs of the cumulative distribution function about histogram. A weighted histogram smoothing unit(130) smoothes histogram by using the cumulative distribution function. The extracted saturation component and smoothed herbs applies the weighted value to histogram. An adaptive histogram matching unit(140) adaptively matches the following weighting value applied to with the target histogram.
