Abstract: The present invention provides a portable terminal apparatus capable of performing previewing, prelistening, and the like of content such as voice, video, or a text without executing the content from the beginning in a state of maintaining a screen displaying items related to the content, and a control method thereof. The portable terminal apparatus includes a display unit which displays content, and a GUI according to the content; a touch input unit which receives input of a touch by a user on the GUI; and a control unit which controls the display unit to display the GUI including items related to a plurality of content, and controls the content to be activated to correspond to a touched position on the GUI in the entire active range of content related to the selected item when one of the items related to the content is selected by a touch input by the user.
