Abstract: PURPOSE: An optical communication system using a duobinary method is provided to increase price competitiveness by using a component having a lower bandwidth. CONSTITUTION: An optical communication system using a duobinary method consists of a differential precoder(210), a low pass filter(230), a modulator driver amplifier(240), a laser source(250), and an MZ(Mach-Zehnder) interferometer type optical intensity modulator(260). The low pass filter(230) and the modulator driver amplifier(240) compose an arm(220). The arm(220) is connected to the modulation terminal(RF) of the MZ interferometer type optical intensity modulator(260). The differential precoder(210), comprising a one-bit delay line(212) and an exclusive-OR circuit(214), executes differential coding for an inputted 2-level binary signal. The low pass filter(230) converts the precoded 2-level binary signal into a 3-level signal. The modulator driver amplifier(240) amplifies the 3-level signal and outputs it to the modulation terminal(RF). The laser source(250) outputs lights of a preset wavelength. The MZ interferometer type optical intensity modulator(260) modulates and outputs the lights according to the 3-level signal inputted through the modulation terminal(RF).
