    Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition for preventing or treating ototoxic drug-induced hearing loss is provided to reduce side effects using a red ginseng extract, thereby treating infectious diseases by stably administering antibiotics when long-term administration of ototoxic aminoglycoside-based antibiotics is necessary. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating hearing loss contains a red ginseng extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared from red ginseng using water, C1-C4 alcohols, and a mixture thereof. Red ginseng is Korean red ginseng. The red ginseng extract contains ginsenoside Rb1 and/or ginsenoside Rb2. Hearing loss is induced by an ototoxic drug.
