Abstract: PURPOSE: A composition containing an Undariopsis peterseniana extract for preventing alopecia or improving hair growth is provided to promote the growth of dermal papilla cells and proliferation of NIH3T3 fibroblast and to suppress activation of 5alpha-reductase. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing alopecia or improving hair growth contains 0.01-70 wt% of an Undariopsis peterseniana extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using a solvent selected among water, C1-C4 alcohols, hexane, ethyl acetate, butylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerin, ethyl acetate, ether, chloroform, and a mixture thereof. The composition is manufactured in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and sitological formulations.
