    Abstract: A two-stage charge equalization method and an apparatus for series connected battery string are provided to reduce voltage stress of a DC/DC converter and a control switch. A battery string(1140) is composed of M battery modules(1141-1146). The M is 2 or more. Each battery module is composed of a plurality of batteries. M charging control switch modules(1131-1136) is connected to the M battery modules respectively. M second DC/DC converters(1121-1126) are connected to the M charging control switch modules. A first DC/DC converter(1110) is connected to the M second DC/DC converters. A microprocessor controls the charging control switch module. The first DC/DC converter receives the whole potential of the battery string and outputs the electric potential lower than the inputted electric potential.     Abstract: A charge equalization apparatus is provided to improve charge equalization by inducing a magnetized current to a low charged battery and performing additional charge equalization. A charge equalization apparatus includes N charge equalization units(1001-100n), an inter-module equalization unit(110), and a voltage detection and driving signal generation unit(120). N charge equalization units are coupled to M batteries, and receive a charge from M batteries. N charge equalization units equalize the charge of M batteries which are coupled in series by discharging an over-charged battery and charging a low charged battery. The inter-module equalization unit is coupled to N battery modules in parallel, and equalizes the charge of N battery modules by discharging an over-charged battery module of N battery modules and charging a low charged battery module. The voltage detection and driving signal generation unit detects a voltage of each of M x N batteries, and sets an average voltage of the detected voltage as a reference voltage. The voltage detection and driving signal generation unit generates a driving signal based on the detected voltage value and the reference voltage. The voltage detection and driving signal generation unit controls the driving of N charge equalization units and the inter-module equalization unit by providing the generated driving signal to N charge equalization units and the inter-module equalization unit.
