Abstract: An apparatus and a method for transmitting and receiving data in a communication system are provided to minimize the processing power consumption of a terminal by transmitting and receiving MBS(Multicast/Broadcast Service) data through an IR(Incremental Redundancy) method. A method for transmitting data in a communication system includes the steps of: determining the level of MSC(Modulation and Coding Scheme) for data; coding the data in correspondence to the determined MSC level, and generating a codeword(313) including the data and a parity; generating symbols(315), coded in correspondence to an IR method, from the codeword(313); and transmitting each coded symbol(315) through a corresponding sub frame.
