Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical filter especially suitable for an image display device by quenching fluorescence and a fluorescence quenching material usable for the optical filter.SOLUTION: The fluorescence quenching material comprises at least one cyanine compound including a cyanine cation represented by formula (I) (wherein Rand Rare each 1-10C alkyl, 6-30C aryl, 7-30C arylalkyl or the like; and Q is a linking group that constitutes a polymethine chain and may contain ring structure in the chain) and a q-valent counter anion represented by the formula pAn(wherein q is integer of 1 or 2; and p is a coefficient to keep the charge neutral).
