PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive for a lubricating oil, which has extreme pressure performance equivalent to that of an existing extreme pressure agent containing a metal element and moreover has a friction and wear reducing effect in use for lubrication, which essentially does not include any metal element or the like, and which exhibits high safety.SOLUTION: The friction and wear reducing agent for a lubricating oil is composed of a copolymer (A) which includes an alkyl acrylate (a) represented by formula (1) and a hydroxyalkyl acrylate (b) represented by formula (2) as indispensable constituting monomer, of which the composition ratio of (a) to (b) is described by equation (a)/(b)=(50/50)-(90/10) (molar ratio), and the weight average molecular weight is 2,000 or more and less than 40,000 (in formula (1), Rrepresents a 10-18C alkyl group, and in formula (2), Rrepresents a 2-4C alkylene group).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of demanding an additive compensating for the ability of engine oil, which is deteriorated by the reduction in sulfur functioning as an antioxidizing agent in the context of looking for many openings, such as improvement in fuel saving performance and purification of and reduction in emission gases, by the automotive industry in order to address environmental problems such as global warming, including the reduction in sulfur content in lubricant base oil, where a base oil with much sulfur content sometimes causes emission of hazardous materials such as sulfur oxides into the environment. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition according to the present invention comprises a novel phosphomolybdic compound and the base oil with a sulfur content of ≤200 ppm. Because a small amount of the novel phosphomolybdic compound shows ability equal to or better than that of an existing antioxidizing agent, the compound can improve a lubricant oil in the antioxidant ability without increasing the metal content in the lubricant oil. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil containing phosphorus molybdenum and/or phosphorus molybdenum amine having slight phosphorus content without slowing down the antioxidant performance. SOLUTION: The phosphorus molybdenum represented by general formula (1) can be obtained by reducing and neutralizing a hexavalent molybdenum compound and then reacting the resultant compound with an alkyl acid phosphate. The phosphorus molybdenum amine can be produced by reacting the phosphorus molybdenum with an amine. The composition can especially suitably be used for engine oil and turbine oil.
