PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric conversion element that improves conversion efficiency. SOLUTION: The element includes a working electrode 10, a counter electrode 20 and an electrolyte-containing layer 30. A metal-oxide semiconductor layer 12 which supports a pigment 13 is provided on the working electrode 10. The pigment 13 includes a cyanine compound, and the cyanine compound includes: heterocyclic skeletons each of which includes an indolenine skeleton bonded to both ends of a methine chain; an anchor group introduced into a nitrogen atom included in that indolenine skeleton; and a phenanthrene skeleton that belongs to one of the heterocyclic skeletons. When the pigment 13 is exposed to light, the electron injection efficiency with respect to the metal-oxide semiconductor layer 12 increases. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
