Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a kaolinite in high yield by gelating a silicate aq. solution and an aluminum compound aq. solution in a specific range of pH and by hydrotherm-treating after controlling a cation content and anion species content in the gel to a specific value. CONSTITUTION:The silicate aq. solution (e.g. No. 3 water glass) and the aluminum compound aq. solution (e.g. aluminum sulfate aq. solution) are mixed and are gelated while keeping pH4-12. The silica-alumina gel obtained is treated by the ion exchanging method, the neutralization hydrolysis method and washing or the like to control to

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high purity synthetic kaolinite in high yield by gelating a Na2SiO3 aq. solution and an Al2(SO4)3 aq. solution with a pH controlled and hydrothermal treating after aging with aging with two steps of alkaline and acidic, filtrating and washing. CONSTITUTION:The sodium silicate aq. solution and the aluminum sulfate aq. solution are mixed and are gelated while keeping pH 4-12. The silica-alumina gel obtained is aged in the alkaline aq. solution of pH >=7, is filtrated and is washed to completely gelate an ungelated raw material and to completely remove residual SO4 ion. Next, the gel is aged in the acidic aq. solution of pH 3-4, is filtrated, is washed and sodium ion is ion exchanged with proton. And the synthetic kaolinite having

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the energy required to modify a kaolinite type clay mineral as compared with that by a mechanical crushing method and to considerably improve the plasticity of clay by introducing an org. compd. between the layers of the laminated structure of the clay mineral and washing a formed intralaminar compd. CONSTITUTION:An org. compd. is introduced between the layers of the laminated structure of a kaolinite type clay mineral and a formed intralaminar compd. is washed. The intralaminar compd. may be crushed before washing. The org. compd. may be potassium acetate, sodium acetate, lithium acetate, urea, potassium oxalate, glycerol or n-octylamine. In accordance with the purpose for which the resulting clay mineral is used, the org. compd. is selected and the degree of washing is regulated.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce artificial kaolinite in which plasticity is maintained at high level with superior formation efficiency by carrying out hydrothermal synthesis treatment together with water by using the hydrate of amorphous calcium silicate and the strong acid salt of Al. CONSTITUTION:Hydrothermal synthesis treatment is carried out together with water by using, as raw materials, the hydrate of amorphous calcium silicate and the strong acid salt of Al, such as AlCl3, to obtain kaolinite powder. It is desirable to use, as the hydrate of amorphous calcium silicate, the one having a composition in which the atomic ratio of calcium to silicic acid is regulated to 0.1-2.0. Since the irregular tetrahedron layer of the amorphous Si can be utilized by using the hydrate of amorphous calcium silicate as raw material, kaolinite crystal formation is allowed to occur uniformly and simultaneously over the whole reaction system. Accordingly, sheet-like kaolinite reduced in crystallinity is formed.
