Abstract:
The present invention comprises an electrodialytic cell (303) and closed loop process for removing SO2 from SO2 containing gases (310). An aqueous scrubbing medium (315) is used to remove the SO2 from the gas. A two compartment electrodialytic water splitter (303) and a means for stripping (305) is used to isolate the SO2 (323) and regenerate the aqueous scrubbing medium. Use of univalent cation selective membranes, recycling (327) of the acid product to the base loop (319) of the water splitter (303), and a prescrubber (301) allow high concentrations of scrubbing solution to be treated without significant fouling inside the membranes. The above process embodiments may be used either alone or in combination.
Abstract:
An avionics display comprising a fluorescent backlight, a liquid crystal display positioned in front of the backlight and a light valve positioned between the liquid crystal display and a viewer. The fluorescent backlight comprises a cold cathode fluorescent tube that is controlled using amplitude modulation. The light valve has a substantially uniform distribution of a dichroic liquid crystal material containing a black dye.
Abstract:
A determination of successive differences in phase between engine speed indicative signals from an engine encoder (29, 31) and a master reference signal provides control for fuel flow to the respective engines (25, 27). Counters (20, 22) for counting pulses in the reference pulse train and the engine speed pulse train over a predetermined time interval as well as counters (24, 26) for determining the time between the last pulse of the reference pulse train counted during the predetermined interval and the end of that time interval and the time between the last pulse of the engine speed pulse train counted during the predetermined time interval and the end of that time interval are included in the circuitry. The frequencies of the reference and speed indicative pulse trains along with the values stored in the counters form the inputs to a phase difference computing circuit which computes the average phase difference between the reference and the speed indicative pulse trains over the predetermined time interval. A fuel regulator is responsive to the phase difference computing circuit for controlling the flow of fuel to the engine to modify the speed of that engine to bring it into closer conformity with a speed indicated by the frequency of the reference pulse train. One engine may provide the reference signal, or an independent reference signal may be generated and each engine (25, 27) may be provided with an encoder (29, 31), first, second, third and fourth counters (20, 22, 24, 26), means for computing, phase difference computing means, and all engines may be provided with fuel control circuits.
Abstract:
Films featuring improved barrier properties formed essentially from a polychlorotetrafluoroethylene having a number average molecular weight of about 1,000,000, or alternately a ZST of 200, preferably 150 and less. The films are useful in forming multilayer film structures, molded articles and the like which exhibit improved barrier properties to gases and vapors, particularly to water vapors. A process for producing such a film and particular articles formed incorporating the film are also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a class of hydrochlorofluorocarbons having a tertiary structure, 5 carbon atoms, 1 chlorine atom, 6 to 8 fluorine atoms, and OH rate constants from about 8 to about 15 cm3/molecule/secx10-14. The hydrochlorofluorocarbons are useful as solvents and blowing agents.
Abstract:
A compressed air dryer includes a base (12) and a 'spin-on' desiccant canister (56) which is retained on the base (12) through a threaded connection (66). Accordingly, when the desiccant (58) within the canister (56) which dries the air must be replaced, the canister (56) is removed from the base (12) by rotating the canister (56) relative to the base (12), and is replaced accordingly by a new canister (56).
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process of forming a polymeric nanocomposite comprising a continuous polymeric phase formed from a melt processible polymer and platelet particles having an average thickness equal to or less than about 50 ANGSTROM , and the polymeric nanocomposite formed by said process.
Abstract:
The invention relates to novel ketoxime carbonates and a process for the synthesis of ketoxime carbonates generally. Ketoxime carbonates are useful in a variety of applications. They may be used for example as pesticides, pharmaceuticals, weed control agents and dye stuff intermediates.
Abstract:
An air dryer control system (10) is disclosed in which the compressed air output of a compressor (12) is dried by one of two air dryers (26, 28) connected in parallel. The purging and drying cycles of the air dryers are alternated by timing (76) and relay (70) device. Upon start-up, the output of the compressor is dried by both dryers until the pressure level in the supply reservoir (18) attains a predetermined level. When the governor (38) cutout pressure is achieved in the reservoir, both air dryers are purged.
