Abstract: A magnetic attachment mechanism and method is described. A cover 1300 for the device has a single piece flap comprising a first magnetic element 1326 in a first portion 1304 and a magnetic element 1324 in a second portion 1310 opposite to the first portion. The second portion is also pivotably attachable to the tablet. The magnetic element in the tablet and first magnetic element in the cover form a magnetic circuit through the outside protective layer 1106 to attach the flap to the outer layer. The cover forms a structure for supporting the tablet in an operational orientation when the flap is folded such that the first magnet 1326 and the magnetic element 1324 form a magnetic circuit. Magnetic sensor 118 detects when the flap is in contact to the layer and present visual content accordingly.

Abstract: Protective cover 1300 for a display of a tablet 1100, comprising: a body portion; a first magnetic element 1326 detected by Hall Effect sensor (HFX) 118 in the tablet when the body portion is secured to the display in a closed configuration by second magnetic element 1402; wherein the detection alters the operating state of the tablet; an attachment mechanism 1340 for pivotally attaching the body portion to the tablet. When the HFX sensor detects or does not detect the magnetic field, the display is disabled or enabled for presenting visual content, respectively. The visual content is presented only at a revealed portion (2102, fig 27B) of the display in a partial open configuration. The body portion comprises a first segment 1304 embedding the first magnetic element; a second segment 1310 with a rigid magnetically attractable insert 1324; a connecting folding portion. In a folded configuration the first and second segments are folded atop each other to support the tablet via magnetic attachment. The body portion comprises a laminate structure with: an inner microfiber layer providing cleaning contact with the display, an outer protective layer; an intervening layer of knitted material aiding in adhesively coupling the inner and outer layers.
