Abstract: Amide-containing epoxy resin/amine adducts are prepared by a process in which an epoxy resin/amine adduct containing primary and/or secondary aminoalkyl groups is reacted with a carboxylic acid in the presence of esterification catalysts, particularly advantageously in the presence of an alcohol. The products prepared according to the invention are useful as binders for cathodic electrocoating.

Abstract: The heat-curable coating agent according to the invention contains a combination of a binder, which possesses basic nitrogen groups and is rendered water-dilutable by protonation with an acid, and a crosslinking agent and, if required, pigments, fillers, corrosion inhibitors, surface coating assistants and catalysts, and the binder used is a reaction product of a dicarboxylic acid or of a dicarboxylate or of a (meth)acrylate oligomer or polymer with an adduct of a di- or triglycidyl ether and a polyamine, the polyamine containing 2 or more amine nitrogen atoms per molecule and one or more alkylene chains of 3 or more carbon atoms between the amino groups, and has an NH amine number of from 50 to 150 mg of KOH/g and is combined with aminoplasts and/or phenoplasts as crosslinking agents. The novel coating agent is useful as a binder for the cathodic electrocoating of metal articles.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of curable polyadducts, possessing basic nitrogen groups, wherein (A) monophenols and/or polyphenols, which contain groups of the general formula (I): where R1 and R2 are identical or different and each is hydrogen or methyl are reacted with (B) amines having one or more primary and/or secondary amino groups, and the adduct formed is reacted with (C) epoxide compounds having from 1 to 4 epoxide groups per molecule and having a molecular weight of at most 2,500, the ratio of the phenolic hydroxyl groups of (A) to epoxide groups of (C) being from 1:0.5 to 1:2 and the amine (B) being employed in such amount that the resulting polyadduct of (A), (B) and (C) contains from 0.1 to 5% by weight of basic nitrogen, and the use of the products, after protonation with an acid, as binders for the production of coatings, especially for the cathodic electrocoating of metal articles.

This surface-coating system can be used for cathodic electrocoating or for conventional methods of surface-coating.

Abstract: Polyadducts, free from epoxide groups, are obtained from ammonia and epoxide compounds by reacting 1 mole of ammonia with from 1.2 to 2.0 equivalents of epoxide, so that if diepoxide compounds are used products of the general formula (I) are obtained, while if triepoxides and/or tetraepoxide compounds are used, by themselves, or together with diepoxide compounds, products of the general formula II (II) are produced; in these formulae, the E1's are identical or different hydroxyl-containing divalent radicals and the E2's are identical or different hydroxyl-containing trivalent or tetravalent radicals, resulting from the opening of the oxirane rings of epoxide compounds containing two, three or four epoxide groups in the molecule, n1, n3 and n5 are from 0 to 3, n2 and n4 are from 1 to 3 and X is 0 or 1, and one or more of the divalent radicals E1 in the general formlula (II) may or may not be replaced by polyvalent radicals E2. The novel polyadducts can be modified by reaction with aldehydes, ketones, monoepoxide compounds, carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid esters or isocyanates, or by protonation with an acid, and may be used, for example, for the cathodic electrocoating of metallic articles.
