Abstract:
Described is a method of producing polymers of aspartic acid by reacting (a) maleic acid anhydride and (b) ammonia and/or primary or secondary amines essentially in the molar ratio (a):(b) of 1:0.1 to 1:3 to give half-amides of maleic acid or fumaric acid, or their ammonium salts, at temperatures of up to 100 DEG C and subsequently condensing the reaction products with each other, optionally also with compounds capable of condensing with them, at temperatures above 100 DEG C and optionally hydrolysing the condensation products. Also described is the use of the polymers thus produced as scale inhibitors, pigment dispersants and additives to washing and cleaning agents.

A process for the production of polyacetals by the copolymerisation of glyoxylic acid esters with cyclic formals derived from dioles, homopolymers of formaldehyde, trioxepane or mixture of these compounds, in which up to 50 wt % of this group of monomers may be replaced by other conventional copolymerisable monomers like epoxides, aldehydes with at least 2 C atoms, tetrahydrofurane and/or C2 to C4 olefines, in the presence of anionic or cationic polymerisation initiators and possibly the hydrolysis of the glyoxyl acid esters polymerised into the copolymer, use of the polyacetal carboxylates thus obtainable as an additive in low-phosphate and phosphate-free washing and cleaning agents, as a water treatment agent and as a dispersant for finely divided substances, and polyacetals which are obtainable by the anionically or cationically initiated copolymerisation of glyoxyl acid esters with cyclic formals derived from diols and possibly the introduction of stable final groups and possibly hydrolysis of the ester groups of the glyoxyl acid esters polymerised into the copolymers.

Reaction products from polybasic carboxylic acids- and amino groups-containing compounds are obtained by heating mixtures of (a) polybasic carboxylic acids from the group composed of citric acid, isocitric acid, aconitic acid, itaconic acid and/or tartaric acid and (b) amino group-containing compounds, at a molar ratio of (a):(b) from 1:0.1 to 1:10 at temperatures of at least 80 °C. Also disclosed is a process for preparing these polymer reaction products, as well as their use as additives for phosphate-poor and phosphate-free washing and cleaning agents.

A process is disclosed for preparing polyaspartic acid salts by treating polycondensates in an aqueous medium with bases. At least 0.7 equivalents of an alkaline metal and/or alkaline earth metal base per mole of the aspartic acid, aspartic acid imide and/or amide units contained in the polycondensates are used. The bases are added during 30 minutes to 20 hours to an aqueous suspension of the polycondensates of aspartic acid heated up to 40 to 140 DEG C, and the reaction mixture is optionally allowed to continue to react. These alkaline metal and/or alkaline earth metal salts of polyaspartic acids obtained by treating aspartic acid polycondensates in an aqueous medium with more than 1 equivalent of an alkaline metal and/or alkaline earth metal base for reducing the molar mass of polycondensates are used as additives for washing and cleaning agents.

Modified polyaspartic acids are obtained by polycondensing (a) 1 to 99.9 mol % aspartic acid with (b) 99 to 0.1 mol % fatty acids, polybasic carboxylic acids, anhydrides of polybasic carboxylic acids, polybasic hydroxycarboxylic acids, monobasic polyhydroxycarboxylic acids, alcohols, amines, alkoxylated alcohols and amines, amino sugars, carbohydrates, sugar carboxylic acids and/or non-proteinogenic aminocarboxylic acids, or by polymerising monoethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of polyaspartic acids, in the manner of radically initiated graft copolymerisation. Also disclosed is a process for preparing these modified polyaspartic acids, as well as the use of these modified polyaspartic acids as additives to washing and cleaning agents, as water conditioning agents and as deposit inhibitors during the condensation of sugar juice.

The invention concerns polycocondensates of aspartic acid, obtained by condensing aspartic acid in the presence of carboxylic-group-containing polymers which include at least 10 mol % of a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid polymerized into the polymer and have a molecular weight of at least 300, in the ratio by weight of 1000:1 to 2:1. The invention also concerns methods of producing such polycocondensates and the use of the polycocondensates, in a form with free acid groups or in a form with the acid groups neutralized with ammonia, amines, alkali-metal bases or alkaline-earth bases, as an additive in washing and cleaning agents, as scale inhibitors or as dispersants for finely divided solids.

Grafted polyamidoamines and polyethylene imines are produced by radically initiated polymerisation of (a) 1-vinylpyrrolidone, 1-vinyltriazol, 1-vinylimidazols, mixtures of said monomers or mixtures of at least one of said monomers with up to 20 % by weight other monoethylenically unsaturated monomers, in the presence of (b) water-soluble or water-dispersible polyamidoamines, polyethylene imines or their mixtures, the ratio by weight (a):(b) being comprises from 5:95 to 95:5. Also disclosed is a process for producing these grafted plymers, the use of the grafted polyamidoamines and polyethylene imines as additives in washing agents in order to inhibit colour transfer during the washing process and a washing agent based on surfactants which contains 0.05 to 10 % by weight of said grafted polymers.
