Abstract: In a liquid discharge head having a movable member positioned oppositely to a heating element with a distance from the heating element to realize the liquid discharge head, in which durability of a movable member is improved and discharge characteristic is stable, and reliability is high. On a device substrate on which a plurality of heating elements are mounted in parallel, a deposition film is formed by photolithographic technique to form a movable member 6, by soaking the movable member 6 in an etching solution after formation of the movable member 6, a right-angled part and an acute-angled part, and a burr formed on the edge of a side part of the movable member 6 are removed to make a surface of the side part of the movable member 6 to the curved face 11. When the movable member 6 is displaced by a pressure created by a bubble generated by the heating element to discharge ink from a discharge port and the movable member 6 is excessively displaced, when a stress according to the displacement of the movable member 6 is added to the movable member 6, a stress concentration is relaxed in the side part of the movable member 6 and consequently, it is prevented to cause cracks in the movable member 6 and fracture of the movable member 6.

Abstract: A liquid discharge head comprises heating members for generating thermal energy to create bubbles in liquid, discharge ports forming the portions to discharge the liquid, liquid flow paths communicated with the discharge ports, at the same time, having bubble generation areas for enabling liquid to create bubbles, movable members arranged in the bubble generation areas to be displaced along with the development of the bubbles, and regulating members to regulate the displacement of each of the movable members within a desired range, and with energy at the time of bubble creation, the liquid being discharged from the discharge ports. For this liquid discharge head, each of the liquid flow paths holds bubbles at the time of bubbling, at the same time, being provided with gaps arranged on the sides of the movable member to allow the liquid on the upstream thereof to flow into the bubble generation area at the time of bubble disappearing. With the structure thus arranged, the meniscus is drawn into the liquid flow path quickly immediately after the bubble disappearing of bubble begins, and then, with a strong force of the meniscus, the trailing portion of the liquid column connected with the discharged droplet is cut off outside the discharge port, hence making the number of satellites smaller for the enhancement of the quality of prints.

The specification also discloses a liquid discharging head having a discharge port (18) for discharging liquid therethrough, a first bubble creating area (15) for creating a first bubble in the liquid, and a first liquid flow path (10) provided with the first bubble creating area and communicating with the discharge port, the liquid in the first liquid flow path being discharged through the discharge port by the creation of the first bubble, characterized by a second bubble creating area (11) for creating a second bubble in the liquid, a second liquid flow path (16) provided with the second bubble creating area, and negative pressure acting means using a variable member provided between the first liquid flow path and the second liquid flow path for causing only negative pressure to act in the first liquid flow path by the disappearance of the second bubble. The specification also discloses a head cartridge and a liquid discharging apparatus using such liquid discharging head.

This liquid discharge head comprises a movable separation membrane capable of effecting separation between a first flow path (3) communicating with a discharge port (11) for discharging a liquid and a second flow path (4) furnished with a bubble generating region for generating bubbles in the liquid by means of a heating element (2) and a movable member (26) opposed to the bubble generating region across the movable separation membrane (5) and furnished in the direction of liquid discharge with a free end to guide the displacement of the movable separation membrane induced by the growth of the bubbles in the direction of the discharge port and regulate the shape of displacement of the movable separation membrane as well.

After the discharge of a first liquid droplet (66a), a second liquid droplet (66b) is discharged while the movable member (31) is still in a displaced state. In comparison with the first liquid droplet (66a), the second liquid droplet (66b) has a larger discharge energy and a larger speed, because the moving energy of the movable member (31) and the energy consumed for the liquid flow opposite to the discharge port (18) are smaller. Thus the first and second droplets are united to form a united droplet (66d) before landing on the recording medium (150). In this manner the amount of the discharged liquid can be varied.
